HIT awarded grants to students with financial difficulties from disaster areas, to enable them to focus on their study and to help solve their temporary problems. According to different disaster situations, the students were given temporary grants of 1000 or 500 yuan, a total of 131000 yuan. The grants have recently been released to the students.
During spring and summer this year, severe droughts and floods occurred in China’s south and north respectively. Some families of HIT students with financial difficulties were affected by the disasters, which caused great economic losses, to varying degrees. At the beginning of the fall semester, the HIT Student Affairs Department and the HIT Graduate Affairs Department at once organized each school to investigate the students returning to school and gain a detailed understanding of the situations of affected students’ families. Statistics show that 150 HIT students’ families were affected by disasters, in the provinces of Henan, Guizhou and Hunan as well as in three Dongbei provinces in the northeast.
A survey of the situations of affected freshmen’s families has also been completed, and HIT will award corresponding grants to them by the end of October.
