HIT Held Key High School Principals Forum in Jiuquan

On Sept, 24th, HIT held the 2013 National Key High School Principal Forum in Jiuquan to allow the principals to feel HIT’s astronautic atmosphere and learn more about HIT’s development and educational strength. More than 50 principals from key high schools nationwide attended the forum. The forum was hosted by Assistant President LIANG Yingchun. The Director of the College Entrance Examination department of the Heilongjiang Admission Office QIANG Tiangang and Director of the College Entrance Examination department of the Jiangxi Provincial Education Examination Authority SHEN Huajin were invited guests at the forum. The President of HIT WANG Shuguo attended the forum and gave a speech.

On behalf of HIT, President WANG extended warm welcome to the principals and expressed gratitude for their work in cultivating many outstanding students for HIT. The forum coincided with the launch the Kuaizhou I satellite constructed by HIT. President WANG introduced the research and development and great significance of the three HIT micro-satellites. He said that HIT would always adhere to the mission of talent cultivation, scientific research, service to society and the heritage and innovation of culture. He expressed his desire that the representatives present would give their opinions and suggestions for HIT’s development. Director of the HIT Admission Office ZANG Yongjun introduced the current situation of HIT, scientific research, talent cultivation, undergraduate admissions and the employment of graduates in detail.

The principals said that this forum provided a good communication platform for HIT and the key high schools all over the country and they have gained an overall knowledge of HIT’s schooling philosophy, capacity and level. The high schools’ relationship with HIT was even closer, which would contribute to their further collaboration with HIT. They gave their constructive suggestions about the development of HIT. They also promised to promote HIT to their students and make sure the best students come to HIT for further education.

The quality of the 2013 freshmen has improved, with the minimum admission scores of HIT breaking the previous record in 24 provinces, including Henan, Gansu, Beijing, Shanxi, Hebei, Chongqing, Shandong and Heilongjiang. The minimum admission scores outnumbered the local first-tier admission score by more than 80 points in 23 provinces (compared to 17 in 2012 and 15 in 2011). The average admission score outnumbered the first-tier admission score by more than 80 points in 25 provinces (24 in 2012 and 18 in 2011). What is particularly striking is obvious increase of the top students, 2077 freshmen which is the 51.3% of the total number with scores outnumbering the local first-tier admission score by more than 100 points (35% in 2012, 22.8% in 2011). The number of students with points outnumbering the first-tier admission score by more than 150 points hit a new record at 112 (104 in 2012, 57 in 2011).

After the forum, the principals visited the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center and watched the launch of the third HIT micro-satellite Kuaizhou I. The principals gave high praise of HIT’s strength in aerospace research and congratulated them on the successful launch of the micro-satellite.
