January 17, the opening ceremony for the new HIT IELTS test center was held at HIT. Vice President GUO Bin and IELTS East Asia Business Development Manager at the British Council Grey Selby jointly unveiled the nameplate of the test center. Our school became the second official IELTS test center in Heilongjiang province. The first test was held in our school on February 15th.
The IELTS test is a comprehensive test of four English communication skills listening, speaking, reading and writing. More than 2 million people take the IELTS test each year around the world. Currently, there are 8,000 colleges and universities, government departments and professional bodies that recognize the IELTS score and regard it as an authoritative and effective method to test people’s communication ability in English. To meet the growing needs of the Heilongjiang region for the test, the IELTS organizer the British Council decided to establish a new test center in Heilongjiang province. After much research they selected our school to become the new test center. The number of IELTS test centers in China rises to 52, in 35 cities.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Assistant President XU Xiaofei. Vice President GUO said that HIT pays great attention to the internationalization of education, and that we have established good cooperative relations with well-known universities in many countries and regions. He also said that the international education level and the number of students who study abroad is among the highest of universities nationally. He emphasized that the successful establishment of the HIT IELTS test center was a mark of approval of our work in foreign exchanges and cooperation, and it was also marks the upgrading of the level of internationalization of education at HIT to a new level. Business Development Manager Selby introduced the development process of the IELTS test. He said that HIT is one of the C9 League, and is open face to face with the world. He believed that the establishment of the IELTS test center will further promote the school’s educational internationalization and satisfy the current growing demand for tests for overseas study. The establishment of the IELTS test center will also be convenient for IELTS candidates from HIT, Heilongjiang province and even the whole country. Northern and Central China area examination director of the Cultural and Education Section of British Embassy YOU Zhuoran, representatives of the Communist Youth League, Undergraduate School, International Cooperation Department, Logistics Group, Security Department, School of Foreign Languages and media also attended the opening ceremony.
After the ceremony, Director Grey Selby also spoke about and recommended the IELTS test, and he did a media interview.
