On January 10, the annual National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony was held by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council in Beijing. President XI Jinping, Premier LI Keqiang, senior official LIU Yunshan and Vice Premier ZHANG Gaoli attended the meeting and presented the awards. The scientific and technological achievements led by HIT and one participated in by HIT won awards.
The 2013 National Science and Technology Awards awarded 10 technology experts and 313 projects in total. The project led by Professor TAN Jiubin and Professor YANG Chunhui won second prize of the State Technological Invention Award; the project "Structural vibration control and application" led by academician OU Jinping and Professor LI Hui won second prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award; the project "Environmentally friendly road construction technology and engineering" completed by Professor TAN Yiqiu and his team won second prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award.
Premier LI expressed his congratulations and respect to all the award winners and people who work on science and technology on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. He pointed out that our country has reached a new stage where we rely more on technological innovation to support economic development and social progress. We must rely on scientific and technological innovation, in order to effectively promote industry to a higher level, improve the quality of the economy; foster new competitive advantages to broaden the scope of China's development; effectively overcome environmental constraints and enhance development sustainability. Premier LI stressed that we need to promote the integration of technological innovation and economic development, so that more innovation results can be transformed into practical productive forces. To improve the quality and efficiency of economic development, national security, the welfare of the people's livelihood, and ecological construction and improvement, we need to make the effort to achieve major breakthroughs in all aspects of people’s livelihood. With technology and creativity we can solve problems in daily life, national service, and benefit thousands of families.
We need to deepen reform and improve technological innovation mechanisms. In the aspects of research and development, resource allocation and the use of funds, as well as all aspects of project evaluation and application of the results of the evaluation, we should focus on the market. The government should focus on improving innovation policies, creating a fair environment, and supporting both basic and key research. We should regard creativity as the core in order to create a safe atmosphere that encourages innovation and tolerates failure, so that young creative talents can come to the fore and attract more people to join the innovative enterprises. To promote economic and social innovation development, we should focus on reform, talents and innovation. To build a prosperous, democratic, civilized and harmonious modern socialist country and achieve the rejuvenation of the Chinese dream, we need to make unremitting efforts.
