On 6th March, HIT held the Domestic and Abroad Recruitment Promote and Exchange Conference. The conference stressed several points. Faculty building should emphasize hard work, highlight effectiveness and should establish long-term approaches. Schools and departments should fully mobilize, fully implement the plan, enhance internal strength, and gather the best talents according to their needs and plans. Party Secretary WANG Shuquan and Vice President HAN Jiecai attended and Assistant President AN Shi presided over the conference.
At the conference, Vice Section Chief of the Personnel Office LIU Wei provided a summary report of HIT domestic and Overseas Recruitment in 2013 including background, implementation and problems. HIT began domestic and overseas talent recruitment in September 2013 school-wide, and released recruitment information through a variety of channels. Twenty-five people were successful, 7 Professors, 4 Associate Professors and 14 Lecturers. Vice Section Chief of Personnel Office GAO Huijun gave a detailed interpretation of polices both national policies including the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and the Recruitment Program of Global Youth Experts and HIT policies including the Recruitment Program of Youth Experts, the Recruitment Program of Domestic and Overseas Experts and the Recruitment of Foreign Postdoctoral Researchers. Vice Section Chief GAO outlined the domestic and abroad recruitment plans and recruitment measures for 2014.
HIT Shenzhen Graduate School President YAO Yingxue introduced the development process, status and effectiveness of the building of HIT Shenzhen Graduate School. He stressed the main approaches in faculty building, including increasing ‘go into world prestigious colleges’ and media advertising efforts, improving the recruitment process, standardizing appointment procedures, recruiting based on levels and responsibilities, after being employed for two contracts, those who are employed will be either promoted or dismissed, and implementing new assessment procedures for full-time teachers. President YAO also discussed the effectiveness and experience of recruitment in the United States, recruitment of foreign teachers, and recruitment from C9 universities. School of Astronautics Vice Party Secretary YANG Zhi introduced the school and its main ideas about faculty building. The School of Astronautics is focused on team strengthening, power gathering, feature development, and high level achievements, emphasizing top-level design, policy guidance, security conditions, and high-level talents. Focusing on the future, the School of Astronautics is building a platform to create conditions for youth development. The school tries to improve the team structure by combining induction and training, with good security, and has achieved good results in faculty building. School of Management Vice Dean YE Qiang introduced the development of their faculty building, academic mechanism and cultural construction, internationalization and international certification of the business school. Since 2008 School of Management has formulated Back-up Support Programs for Outstanding Youth, Youth Fund Incentives and Distinguished Position Incentives, a series of incentive policies. It also established ‘International Position’ and established an ‘Overseas Recruitment Committee’. Through the internationalization of conception, culture and institution, the School promotes the internationalization of faculty development and personnel training. Each unit also put forward their own thoughts and suggestions about the current issues they face concerning faculty building. The Recruitment Program of Global Youth Experts representative Professor SONG Haiqing reported on the team's research progress and future work plans. Director of the International Office FAN Hongbo introduced the current situation, resources and goals of the international building of HIT faculty.
The department leaders, academic leaders, representatives of young teachers attending the conference talked freely about faculty building, especially domestic and overseas recruitment. They suggested that HIT should take some measures including strengthening top-level design and planning scientifically about talent development goals, improving related measures of talents introduction, and broadening the channels for domestic and abroad recruitment are good ideas. HIT needs to optimize management and assessment of talents. By these measures, talents can be attracted here; stay here and make their contribution.
Party Secretary WANG pointed out in his speech, that talent recruitment and development is the major strategic issue of the school development process. It is an important factor in promoting HIT to a world-class university. Therefore, HIT should think and plan faculty building from the perspective of long-term development and strategic development. HIT should place emphasis equally on home and abroad and also combine induction and training. In other words, HIT should not only strengthen the domestic and overseas talents induction, but also create opportunities and conditions for more young teachers in world-class universities to learn and improve. He also stressed that during faculty building, HIT cannot just follow the beaten track, but needs to emancipate the mind. We should make bold innovations, and act simultaneously in the important areas.
