April 12, the 2nd HIT Exploration International Student Games, 2014 Sunshine Sports opening ceremony and the 12th Student Sports Festival opening ceremony was held in the HIT gymnasium. More than 300 athletes from over 50 countries including China, Russia, South Korea and Thailand participated in the games. They promoted friendship between Chinese students and international students through “3 on 3” Basketball, Dance performances and Ball Balance Race, Kangaroo Relay Race, Baby-Bride Race and other fun games. Vice President ZHOU Yu attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
This activity was hosted by the Sports Department, the International Student Center and the Youth League, and undertaken by the School of Management. After registration, 19 teams participated in the competition. The event is one of the International Student Center activities for the foreign students who study at HIT. It is part of the “Implement campus multicultural culture and cosmopolitan atmosphere promotion project”.
Vice President ZHOU said, this event aims to develop the awareness of international exchanges and cooperation of young students, to present the enterprising spirit of both Chinese students and international students and to create a diverse and cosmopolitan campus atmosphere. He hoped that the majority of Chinese and foreign young students leave the Internet, get out of the dormitory, go to the playground, to build a platform for exchanges and friendship between foreign and Chinese students, to encourage the healthy development of sports between Chinese and foreign students and to develop HIT’s international students work to a new stage.
A 27-year-old student, Kirby from Guinea-Bissau in Africa on behalf of the School of Architecture participated in “3 on 3” Basketball competition. He said excitedly after the game that he got to know Chinese players from the School of Civil Engineering and the School of Management through the Sunshine Sports activity. The dance team of the School of Management ZHANG Xiying and Russian girls Svetlana and eight other students dressed in white Cheongsam performed a wonderful dance. The players enjoyed the experience, had fun and enjoyed health.
The Youth League, Students Affair Department，Department of Basic Education and the Sports Department leaders and the teachers and students from each school attended the opening ceremony and watched the games.
