“Could you make the robot perform a dance for me, please?” “Certainly, just take the remote-control yourself and press this button.” With the child pressing the button, the robot began to dance at once. It was designed and developed by students from the School of Computer Science and Technology at HIT. The robot’s sometimes swinging arms, sometimes standing on one leg and sometimes lateral movement all drew bursts of applause from children.

From May 3rd to 6th, the China-Harbin Youth Culture Expo was held at the Harbin International Conference Exhibition and Sports Center. Robot for education and entertainment, Yutu lunar rover (Jade Rabbit), 3D map robot and self-supporting friction stir welding method, were four innovative works by students from HIT which were displayed in the creative exhibition area and drew widespread attention.

LIN Duo, the Party Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Harbin Municipal Committee, and LI Haoyan, the Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of Heilongjiang Province visited the HIT exhibition area. Party Secretary LIN, accompanied by a delegation, came to the HIT exhibition booth, picked up a sample of the self-supporting friction stir welding method and talked with HIT students. He said: “I’ve seen a similar project at the exhibition in Jiangsu, and now this technology developed very well in HIT, with such a broad application prospects. I hope you can apply it as soon as possible to promote the development of Harbin and even Heilongjiang.”

According to the team leader of Yutu lunar rover (Jade Rabbit), the lunar rover they made was a technological work designed and developed with 3D printing technology. They consider that attending the Youth Culture Expo can not only popularize the knowledge of space science and technology to the general public and students, but also demonstrate HIT students’ creative works and HIT’s achievements in the space industry to the whole of society. The team leader of the 3D map robot told visitors, “Our 3D map robot can make a real-time scan of the surrounding environment and then generate a 3D map. I hope our robot can be used in Baidu Smart City or online s of medium-sized and small enterprises.

The China-Harbin Youth Culture Expo was cosponsored by the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Harbin Municipal Committee, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Harbin Municipal Committee and the Communist Youth League Committee of Harbin City.
