On May 14th, Party Secretary WANG Shuquan met National Academy of Engineering academician Professor Simon Sze, and granted him the title of Honorary Professor of HIT. Represenatives of the School of Astronautics, the Personnel Office and the International Office attended the meeting.
   
Director of the International Office FAN Hongbo presided over the ceremony. School of Astronautics Professor LIU Xiaowei read the resume of Professor Sze. Party Secretary WANG spoke highly of Professor Sze’s outstanding achievements in academics. He hoped that Professor Sze would provide HIT assistance in areas including international cooperation and exchanges, the development of young teachers, discipline construction and the personnel training. Professor Sze said he was honored to be an honorary professor of HIT. He fully affirmed the academic research achievements of HIT in recent years, and expressed his willingness to support HIT in the process towards becoming a world-class university.

Professor Sze is a Chinese Academy of Engineering Foreign Academician and a National Academy of Engineering Academician. He has been nominated three times for the Nobel Prize in Physics. He made a lot of original contributions in microelectronics technologies. His most distinguished contribution is that he was involved in the invention of NVSM, which created the conditions for the subsequent birth of a series of memory devices. This technology enabled developments such as mobile phones, laptop computers, digital cameras, digital television, smart IC cards, portable DVD, MP3, GPS and other modern electronic systems.
