“Students from HIT have strong logicality in design thought, solid basic skills in design expression and a good combination of rational and affective thinking.” On June 8th, the oral defense of undergraduate graduation projects in the School of Architecture successfully ended. This activity was jointly organized by the School of Architecture, the Architectural Design and Research Institute of HIT, the Harbin Institute of Technology Urban Planning and Design Institute, the Rural Lifestyle Landscape Design Company in Shenyang and the Northeastern University. Thirteen undergraduates supervised by the teacher QU Guangbin successfully completed their graduation projects and were highly praised.

“First-class designers got involved in the whole project and they provided four design subjects for us. In the course of this project, they specially came to the School of Architecture to offer us guidance and help. The final oral defense was also made to these practice supervisors.” A student told the reporter that she chose the subject of the landscape planning and design of a recreational vehicle camp in the Harbin Golden Bay Wetland Park. Under the joint guidance of school supervisors and practice supervisors, she had a more comprehensive perspective, a more complete design and a great improvement in language performance.

Lecturer QU said that this joint graduation project changed the past training methods. Through a school-enterprise coalition, it is aimed at training a large number of high quality talents with both knowledge and practice. Although the project was only in the first year, it has already achieved initial success. It has laid the foundation for the multidimensional teaching model in combination of knowledge-oriented talents and social practice, and for the experiment teaching team in combination of school supervisors and practice supervisors.

The entire joint graduation project lasted nearly four months, with two universities and three domestic design companies participating in the project. It invited undergraduates to organize into groups and then according to different subjects and requirements, to complete the undergraduate practice teaching in four periods. The project also invited famous companies and designers in society to act as practice supervisors, supported undergraduates in independently completing graduation projects under the common guidance of school supervisors and practice supervisors.
