Sino-Russian Scientific and Technological Events Holds in Qingdao

From June 3rd to 5th, the 2014 Sino-Russian Young Scientists Forum and 2014 Sino-Russian Symposium on Advanced Materials and Processing Technology were held in Qingdao.

The 2014 Sino-Russian Young Scientists Forum was sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the Qingdao Government and the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU), and organized by the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the Administrative Committee of Qingdao Blue Silicon Valley Core Area, the Jimo Government and the HIT Qingdao Science and Technology Park. During the forum, a series of other activities were also held, including the 2014 Sino-Russian Symposium on Advanced Materials and Processing Technology, the Sino-Russian Young Ph.D. Students Forum and 2014 First Qingdao International Technology Transfer Conference. Experts and scholars from more than 30 universities in China and Russia and nearly 600 people from all walks of life in Qingdao participated in the above events.

On the morning of June 4th, the opening ceremony of the 2014 Sino-Russian Young Scientists Forum and the 2014 Sino-Russian Symposium on Advanced Materials and Processing Technology was held in the Qingdao Fuxin Hotel. Many people attended this opening ceremony and made speeches, including Director-General JIN Xiaoming from the Department of International Cooperation (Office of Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs), Vice-Director GENG Zhanxiu from the Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization, Vice Mayor of Qingdao WANG Guangzheng, Sergey Lebedev from the Russian Embassy in China and Vice President HAN Jiecai from HIT. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation sent a congratulatory letter to the forum.

In his speech, Director-General JIN said that due to the initiative of both heads of state, the year from 2014 to 2015 was designated as the China-Russia Youth Year of Friendship Exchanges. The Sino-Russian Young Scientists Forum reflects the spirit of friendship, cooperation, exchanges and benefits for both countries. Scientific and technological cooperation was the most important, active and lasting bond between China and Russia. He hoped that young scientists in both countries would carry out international scientific and technological cooperation with the purpose of innovation in opening up and achieving mutual benefits in cooperation, would strengthen friendly contacts and scientific and technological exchanges with various countries including Russia and would share the fruitful results that scientific and technological progress has brought to all human beings.

Mr. Lebedev said that in recent years, Chinese and Russian universities have made frequent exchanges and established a number of university leagues. This not only contributes to the educational development of both countries, but also deepens the exchanges in science and technology, culture and economics. The young were the important basis of the development of cooperation between China and Russia, and this forum promoted very well communication between young Chinese and Russian scientists. He believed that with an increase in activities like the year of exchanges, the year of languages and the year of tourism at the national level, the relationships between both countries will definitely become even closer.

In his speech, Vice President HAN said that materials and materials processing technology werea common key technology of modern industry. Disciplinary intersection and amalgamation and making the full use of latest achievements in science and technology are the likely path in the development of new materials and materials processing technology. The Sino-Russian Symposium on Advanced Materials and Processing Technology, the China-Russia Youth Year of Friendship Exchanges and the Sino-Russian Young Scientists Forum built an academic platform for exchanges between future young scientists in both countries. He hoped that both countries would take advantage of this opportunity to improve the communication and cooperation between universities and scientific research institutions, to enhance the disciplinary intersection and amalgamation and to jointly promote research and cooperation in materials and materials processing technology.

After the opening ceremony, Chinese and Russian experts and scholars focused on carrying out academic exchanges, deepening technological cooperation and improving scientific and technological research and development and innovation in materials and materials processing technology. More than 140 papers in total were received.

During the forum, the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the HIT Qingdao Science and Technology Park and British, Russian and German authorities conducted targeted negotiations around more than 20 international technology transfer issues and reached a number of cooperative agreements.

Representatives from HIT participated in these activities, especially from the Research Academy of Science and Technology, the International Cooperation Department, the International Student Center, the School of Astronautics, the School of Materials Science and Engineering and the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
