On April 8th, the discipline international assessment pre-start meeting was held at HIT. Attendees discussed related issues about international assessment of disciplines Vice President DING Xuemei presided over the meeting.
In the meeting, Vice President DING made several requests for the international assessment of disciplines: Departments should base their standards on first-class international disciplines and use first-class international discipline standards to evaluate the status quo of HIT disciplines. We should have an international perspective of features and advantages of disciplines and make sure the development direction of disciplines. Furthermore, it is essential to clarify potential problems and difficulties within disciplines. It is of great importance to learn world-class disciplinary models, and to use evaluation as the force to promote the transformation of world-class discipline belief and reform measures. Through assessment, we can integrate international resources to improve the visibility and influence of disciplines and build a capable academic management team with international standards. She stressed that an internationally based assessment of disciplines should focus on developmental evaluation and diagnose problems, fully reflect disciplinary characteristics, improve academic content and promote long-term development through assessment.
Persons in charge of the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Technology and Environmental Science and Engineering reported on the implementation plan of discipline international assessment regarding evaluation objectives, guidelines, evaluation processes, organization, self-assessment frameworks and financial situations. Deputy Director of the Office of Disciplines, ZHAI Changhai, introduced major work and related requests from the perspectives of organizational forms, assessment methods, overall progress and other aspects.
Participants engaged in discussions about materials preparation, expert selection, scheduling, meaning and purpose of assessment and other aspects.
Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and other universities carried out international assessments in multiple first class disciplines as significant measures to develop first-class subjects and promote internationalization. Through international “diagnostic” assessment, HITcan test disciplinary development levelsand grasp the current problems and positions of disciplines. HIT can also enhance the international reputation of our disciplines, broaden eyes and promote academic communication.HIT’s discipline-building department surveyed the international assessments of Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and other universities, based on which the department wrote a report in 2012. At the same time, it got initial planning of HIT discipline international assessment. In May, 2014, HIT invited professor YANG Jie, an expert in discipline international assessment from Shanghai Jiaotong University, to give a speech on discipline international assessment. Heads of some related disciplines at HIT exchanged ideas with professor Yang on discipline international assessment.
