From September 11th to 14th, HIT hosted the Chinese Physics Society (CPS) Fall Meeting 2014. The opening ceremony was hosted at the Globe Theatre of the International Convention and Exhibition Center. Deputy Governor of Heilongjiang Province, SUN Dongsheng, HIT President, ZHOU Yu, and Organizing Committee Convener of the CPS, Professor WANG Mu, gave speeches at the opening ceremony.

Deputy Governor SUN said in his speech that the CPS Fall Meeting has played an important role in promoting the university physics discipline and has built cooperation and communication, and has furthered research regarding physics education. He hopes that those working in the physics field will contribute their efforts to the development of the discipline of physics with the conference as a platform. He also appeaed to participating experts and scholars to pay attention to the development of Heilongjiang Province, and asked them to give suggestions and support.

President ZHOU introduced the development of HIT and the discipline of physics in his speech. He stressed that innovation is the basis for national prosperity and the soul of a nation’s progress, which pushes forward the development of human society. He hopes that with cooperation and communication, new thoughts and views can be found to improve the development of Chinese physics, and also to broaden the school's educational ideas.

Professor WANG introduced the history,
positioning and the organizers’ selection process  of the CPS Fall Meeting. He believed that with joint effort, the CPS Fall Meeting would provide an important influence in the world of physics conferences in the future.

HIT Vice President HAN Jiecai hosted the opening ceremony. Professors from Peking University, GONG Qihuang and Ouyang Qi, Professor from Zhengzhou University, HUO Yuping, Nobel Prize winner in physics, Professor David J. Gross and Director of the Pittsburgh Particle Physics, Astrophysics, and Cosmology Center, HAN Tao, attended the opening ceremony.

The CPS Fall Meeting was organized by the Chinese Physics Society, in order to provide a platform for physicists in various fields to hold academic discussions and exchanges. The meeting this year had 17 sub-topics: Particle Physics, Field Theory and Cosmology, Nuclear Physics and Accelerator Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Photophysical Physics, Plasma Physics, Nano-and Mesoscopic Physics, Surface and Low-dimensional Physics, Semiconductor Physics, Superconductivity Physics, Magnetism, Soft Condensed Matter Physics and Biophysics, Quantum Information, Computational Physics, Statistical Physics and Complex Systems, Dielectric Physics, and LCD and Extreme Physics Conditions. The conference invited 288 reports, 626 oral reports, and 642 posted reports, in which HIT was invited for 12 reports and 37 oral reports. During the reports, participating experts and scholars presented new research progress in domestic and foreign fields.  More than 2,300 scholars attended the conference. The HIT Department of Physics began preparing the meeting in October of 2013 for planning organization and thoughtful arrangements.

During the meeting, the Association of University Physics Departments, Women in Physics, Chinese Physics Society Committee, Poster Exchanges and other activities were also hosted at HIT. Additionally, Professor David J. Gross
made a special academic report .
