On the invitation of Russia’s Saint Petersburg State University, Vice President REN Nanqi,along with professors from HIT, visited the university from September 18th to 20th. This visit highlighted characteristics of the construction of the departments at HIT, with a goal ofstrengthening the two schools’ relationship to carry out substantial cooperation betweendisciplines of both universities. Such cooperation will have experts and professors as the main body of the institute department, talent training, academic exchange and scientific research cooperation as the link.
On September 19th, REN Nanqi met with Saint Petersburg State University’s Vice-Rector for Research, Sergei Tunik. They had an in-depth exchange of views on how to realize the two universities’ teaching and scientific research resources, through such means as, joint research projects, shared high-level talent training and other avenues in the fields of environment ecology and plasma physics applications. Professors from HIT’s School of Municipal and Environmental Engineering, School of Science, and School of Energy Science and Engineering had a one-on-one discussions with relevant professors from Saint Petersburg State University. Professors from both universities attended informal discussions, listened to academic reports and visited labs together, and they defined the cooperation intention of both universities. On September 20th, REN met with Gorka Levski,VicePresident in charge of foreign affairs. They confirmed physical space technology, the ecological environmental research and information and computer technology as prioritygoals for cooperation. They signed a cooperation memo and a cooperation agreement for astudent exchange program under the witness of XU Mei, the director of the HeilongjiangEducation Department.
Saint Petersburg State University was established in 1724, as one of the oldest and best universities in Russia. It was ranked 12th in QS University Rankings (BRICS 2014). Eightgraduates and professors from this university have won the Nobel prize, including Pavlov, Semenov, Leojav, and Cantor Vechhi, to name a few. Russian President, Putin, and RussianPrime Minister, Medvedev both graduated from Saint Petersburg State University’s School of Law. Many other Russian senior government officials also graduated from this university.
