Organized by the Association of Sino-Russia Technical Universities (ASTRU), and hosted by Saint-Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, Tongji University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University and HIT, the “2014 ASRTU Gathered in Saint Petersburg” conference was held in Saint Petersburg, Russia from September 21-24. More than thirty universities and approximately 200 students participated in the conference.
This conference’s goal was to facilitate the development of ASRTU, to cooperate with the “2014-2015 year of friendship and communication between China-Russia Teenagers”,,” and to discuss the future development of China’s and Russia’s engineering education. President Vasiliev of Saint Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, the Education Consul of Saint-Petersburg, China-Consulate JIANG Zhongliang, the chair of the Board of Education and Science, Maximoff, the President of the Department of Education of Heilongjiang Province, XU Mei, thePresident of ASTRU and the president of Bauman Moscow State technical University,Alexandrov, and the Vice President of HIT, REN Nanqi, all gave speeches at the opening ceremony. REN Nanqi expressed hopes that the teenagers participating in the conference would fully use the resource of the universities in ASTRU, that they would communicate with each other, learn from each other, enhance friendship, grow together, and further the development of China and Russia in order to create a better future for the relationship of both countries in his speech.
During the conference a seminar was held on China’s and Russia’s high engineering education, titled, “Engineering Education, the way to success, about reviewing and forecast China and Russia conventions and experiences in engineering education.” Vice President of Undergraduate Affairs, the head of the Administration of Education Quality, QI Jingyao, gave a report titled, “Facilitating renovation in engineering education, cultivate innovative researchers in engineering,” which discussed what HIT had done and features of HIT’s education in how to educate through research and how to build an educating system, as well as how to facilitate renovation in engineering education.
In the general meeting of ASTRU there was emphasis on the development of Chinese and Russian universities, amendment of the procedures of ASTRU, and discussion of how to train excellent researchers and how to facilitate better cooperation between industry and education. Three Russian and two Chinese universities were promoted from observers to permanent members of the organization, so there are now 35 university members in ASTRU.
Professors WANG Zhenyu and LU Weihong from the School of Food Science and Engineering at HIT had a meeting with professionals from the School of Food Science and Engineering of Saint Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics. The meeting was about building united labs and inviting professionals to give speeches, and the meeting resulted in an agreement of cooperation between the two schools. Three students from HIT participated in “The Competition of Mobile Application and Computer Game Designing of China-Russia universities’ students” and had a discussion with Russian and Chinese students who participated in the competition.
