Recently, the Heilongjiang Provincial Science and Technology Award Committee published decisions for their 2014 Science and Technology Award, which awarded Professor HE Xiaodong from HIT’s School of Astronautics the 2014 Heilongjiang Provincial Highest Science and Technology Award. Professor HE became the fourth expert to win the prize.
Professor HE is a doctoral tutor, and a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program. He has long been engaged in teaching and research work regarding aircraft structural mechanics and composite materials, and has made innovative achievements inareas such as lightweight composite pressure vessels, integration systems of metallic thermal protection, low temperature composite materials technology, and multi-functional and multi-scale composite materials. Professor HE and his team have solved long-term technological bottleneck on weight reduction of composite pressure vessels, which made China become the third country to own the technology, following America and Germany. They make contributions to the creation of the composite materials industry base in Heilongjiang Province, to promote the rapid development of the carbon fiber composites industry. The team has broken through a series of technical problems by refining scientific problems from engineering projects. They also have published many influential papers at the international level, which has attracted the attention of internationally renowned scholars.
In addition, Professor HE is a chief scientist of the 973 Project, a panel member of the Special Aerospace and New Materials group of 863 Project, a panel member of the Delivery Systems Expert group of the “Lunar Exploration Project” of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for the National Defense of the PRC. In recent years, Professor He and his team have won two second class awards of the State Technological Invention Award, one third class award of the National Science Progress Award, a Special Award from the Governor of Heilongjiang Province, and they havepublished more than 200 SCI papers.
