On October 23rd, the doctoral degree conferment ceremonywas held at the HIT museum, President of HIT, ZHOU Yu,congratulated all 121 doctoral graduates. He said, ”The title,Doctor, is an honor, and a standard that we should pursue all of our life. I hope that everybody can keep the faith, keep seeking the truth, have a broad-minded, and be friendly and kind. To have magnificent achievements and show the best of yourself in the future.”

President ZHOU expressed his expectations for the graduates in four areas. First, you should have high ideals and feel great social and human responsibility. He said, No matter when and where, you should remember the HIT motto “Strict criterions, Solid Skills.” The university motto is the height of the school culture and spirit, also the condensation of students’ and teachers’attitudes. ”Strict criterions” is the high standard. “Solid skills” is pursuing excellence. Next, you should have the courage to seek higher truth. The science world is unlimited, we should keep on seeking excellence. ZHOU recommend the book, Manuscripts of QIAN Xue sen, and expressed his hope that everyone could have aspirit devoted to science and the courage to challenge difficulties in their future life of research and study. Third, you should have a broad-mind. The mind of a person will determine his achievements and future developments. How broad your mind is will influenceyour accomplishments in the future. You should accept different people and ideas. Furthermore, understand that people withdifferent ideas and habits than you may give you criticism andunfair accusations. Finally, you should have a kind heart. A kind heart means love, acceptance, culture and harmony, and shows who you really are. You should not only seek accomplishments in the science world, but also cultivate a better heart, to show your kindness to the world by providing help to others.

Vise President DING Xuemei, members of the HIT Board ofDegrees, leaders of the various schools, Doctoral supervisors, and the families and friend of the Doctoral graduates also participatedin the degree conferment ceremony.

Vice President DING read out, “The decision about conferringdegrees to doctoral graduates made by the HIT Board of Degrees.”Through the examination of the 151st conference of the HIT Board of Degrees, 121 students received doctoral degrees, six of themwere doctor of philosophy degrees, 103 were doctor of engineeringdegrees, and 12 of them were doctor of management degrees.Vice President of the HIT Graduate School, ZHEN Liang,supervised the awarding of degrees. The leader of different schools and doctoral supervisors awarded the degrees to the graduates. President ZHOU gave the certificates to the graduates and took a photo with them.

Graduate representative, LIU Jie from the School of Management said, “More than 1000 days studying for our doctoraldegree at HIT is the most valuable time in our life.”She expressed her gratitude and blessing for the school, supervisors, families, friends, and colleagues. She said that her success was reached by the cultivation of HIT, and she will remember HIT for the rest of her life.

The supervisor representative, Changjiang Scholar Professor,and National Outstanding Youth Fund award-winner, Professor JIA Dechang, expressed his wishes for the doctoral graduates: devote your life to make country and society better, have a strong mind, keep studying for the rest of our life, be willing to think, anddevelop yourself both inside and outside. He said ” Dear students, there is the blood of HIT in your veins, we will treasure this relationship between professor and students forever.”

The conferment ceremony ended with a chorus from students and professors.

Family representative, SUN Yuanjian, who entered HIT in 1987 expressed hope that every graduate could have a colorful life and take responsibility for human beings, and to make contributions to and return love to society. He said, ”Today is the end of your student life, also the new milestone of your life. You will start again with the help of the HIT spirit. You should make our country, HIT, and your teachers and families proud by your own hand.”
