Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the State Oceanic Administration of the People’s Republic of China signed an agreement to further support the construction of HIT’s discipline of Marine Science and Technology and the discipline of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, so that HIT can make more contributions to the development of national marine economy and the implementation of the Marine power strategy.
Under the agreement, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China will continue to give policy support to HIT. They will explore and build an effective mode of running an inter-provincial campus to support the development of thediscipline of Marine Science and Technology and the discipline of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at HIT. They agreed to support HIT to enhance the construction of a marine research platform and associated conditions and capacities. Therefore, HIT can improve research capacity in related fields and implement technological achievementstransformation to make more contributions to the development of Marine power strategyand national defense science and technology. The State Oceanic Administration of the People’s Republic of China encourages and supports HIT with active participation of thenational marine science and education work, and the construction of an important base ofmarine science and technology, naval architecture and ocean engineering technologies andapplications, and technology development and achievement transformation. They support HIT to build shallow sea comprehensive test sites acting in concert with the National Ocean Technology Center. HIT will make more efforts in training personnel for marine systemswith joint training to cultivate various types of qualified personnel needed for the country’smarine programs. These personnel will provide strong support for the implementation of theChina's maritime strategy and local economic construction and social development.
The agreement commended the work of HIT. HIT, taking the advantages of acomprehensive disciplinary system and the successful experience in aerospace industry providing scientific and technological support, focusing on China’s significant demand inshipbuilding and marine areas, accelerates the construction of the “985 Project” and Primary Doctor State of the Discipline of Marine Science and Technology and the Discipline of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. HIT continuously improves the quality of personnel training, scientific level, independent innovation ability and the ability of social services in fields, including: marine science, high-tech shipbuilding and marine engineeringand advanced marine equipment and instruments. HIT actively participates in a variety of marine culture and education activities sponsored by the State Oceanic Administration, and makes use of university resources to popularize oceanic knowledge among the public and students to improve their knowledge.
HIT’s campus, according to its general layout and national and regional development needs, has determined a "develop with the ocean" path of development. In recent years, HIT has developed quickly in the fields of marine and shipbuilding engineering. National research platforms such as the "Marine Engineering Materials and Deep Processing Technology International Research Center," and the Shandong Institute of Ships Technology were located at HIT. A number of research institutions, such as Shandong Key Laboratory of Special Welding Technology are emerging as well.
