At the awarding ceremony forthe 2014 AKZO NOBEL Chinese Student Social Public Welfare Prize, the Green Union of HIT, with its series of educational activities won the only MCA special prize. The project “Loving and Caring for the Disabled,” of the Love Association, College of Science, won the bronze prize.Also the project “Realizing Dreams Plan”, which supports the study of poor kids in Ninglangxian, Yunnan Province, fromthe Young Volunteers Association, Faculty of Base, won the bronze prize.
The Green Union of HIT began its series of educational activities in 1999, it organizedenvironmental protection volunteers yearly to the schools, communities,botanical garden and other spots of green education in Harbin, by green education, the youth green Forum, turning off light carnival and so forth to carry out educational activities. In 15 years, the Green Union has carried out over 400green educational activities, benefiting over 200,000 persons.
The project “Loving and Caring for the Disabled,” of the Love Association, of the College of Science, began in 1998, withleague members taking turns helpingdisabled kids with their studies, and providing care for disabled families. In 16 years, 55 Party branches,157 League branches, and 4500 students, all the undergraduate students in theCollege of Science have taken part in these activities, and helped 488 disabled families in total, with the time of helping the disabled over 32,000 hours.
The project,“Realizing Dreams Plan,” which supports the studies of poor childrenin Ninglangxian, Yunnan Province, began in2012, and was initiated by the Young Volunteers Association, Faculty of Base. Theyprovide material and spiritual assistance for the economicallychallenged families,by advocating savings donation, issuance of love material, correspondence and other forms.Up untilMay of this year, under the supervision of the Faculty of Base, the association has gathered and given the“Soma fragrance, full of love in Liangshan”scholarship fund 38,410 yuan, and over 80 students have helped in Ninglang writing letters with the classes of the Faculty of Base.
The AKZO NOBEL Chinese Student Social Public Welfare Prize, guided by the Central Communist Youth League of China, and established by AKZO NOBEL (China), in 2011,is the first social public welfare prizeawarded bythe Association of Colleges, and is the main project of the“China College Students Social Practicefor Promotion Plan,”ofthe Central Communist Youth League of China School Department,aiming at encouraging college students to actively participate in public welfare activities, as well as spreading the concept of public welfare to promote the public on social welfare concern and participation. The activity is primarily supported by 20 universities nationwide, and alsoreceives public solicitation from other universities, thus attracting participation from 57 cities, and 128 universities, with 254 clubs participating, and a total of 293 projects competing for the award.
