On November 1st, HIT began to implement free physical examination for 1,089 PhDstudents on both campuses. The physical examinations will last for nearly one month. In the morning, students gathered together in the Physical Examination Hall. “Our school is so awesome.” “Yeah, HIT implemented free physical examination for us!” they talked with each other happily.

Although the examinations had not yet begun, many students were waiting in the hall. They said that health was not only important to them, but also was a prerequisite for them making contributions to HIT and China. Only if they were fit, could they work better for Chine in the next 50 years. School of Mechatronics Engineering PhD student, YAO Honghui, said, “Because of the heavy research tasks we face daily, we didn’t have enough time to do aphysical examination. Now, our school has provided us such a good chance. I appreciatethe care of school.” School of Civil Engineering PhD student, WANG Hongguang, said at the second campus, “In recent years, the weather of fogs and haze is very serious. At the same time, high-level PhDs suffer from great pressure. We worry about our health. I think aregular physical examination is necessary.” “Cheung Kong Scholar Award Program” andSchool of Astronautics Professor, DUAN Guangren, said, “I support regular physical examination of PhD students very much. Nowadays, with the polluted environment and heavy pressure, they should have a regular physical examination to know more about their physical condition and keep fit. I have told my students that it was not a waste of time. It was necessary.” Doctoral Associate Staff, LV Yan, said that few PhDs would have aphysical examination due to limited time. This free examination held by HIT would not only help students get to know their physical condition, but more importantly could improve their awareness of their health.

PhD students are the new force of scientific research. To protect PhD’s heath and topopularize good, healthy habits, HIT decided to implement the free physical examination for third-year PhD students. The examination targeted increases in CEA, ECGs and an abdominal color Doppler ultrasound examination, to achieve early warning of major malignant diseases and disease prevention to ensure PhD students are in a better state tostudy and do research.

As an important part of the postgraduate physical and mental health education system, thedoctoral physical examination, combined with activities including: enrollment integration, team training, aerial quality expansion, peer exchange, collective wedding ceremony andinsurance on business, promotes the comprehensive development of doctoral students from many aspects, such as psychology, communication and health to form an comprehensivedoctoral physical and mental health education system.
