On January 11, an Alumni Association of Harbin Institute of Technology was established in the Washington, D.C. area and held its opening ceremony in Germantown, Maryland. Hundreds of alumni and their families, representatives from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States, the Universities Federation in Washington, and the Chinese Alumni Associations of Greater Washington (CAAGW), gathered together to celebrate the establishment of the HIT Alumni Association - Washington, D.C.
The President of the HIT Alumni Association - Washington, D.C., CHU Wei, first gave a welcoming speech. He introduced the preparation process and the presence of the HIT Alumni Association - Washington, D.C., and proposed a plan for its further development. He expressed hope that alumni in this area could eventually be built into a platform to serve other alumni, HIT, and society. Through high-quality, comprehensive communication activities, the HIT Alumni Association - Washington, D.C. can promote communication between HIT and alumni.
The President of HIT and the HIT Alumni Association, ZHOU Yu, sent a congratulatory letter for the establishment of the HIT Alumni Association - Washington, D.C.. He first expressed his congratulations on the establishment of the HIT Alumni Association - Washington, D.C. and extended warm greetings to overseas alumni in his letter. He pointed out that alumni are the successors, disseminators and performers of the culture and spirit of HIT, they are the power of the school to maintain long-term development and construction, are the most valuable treasure of the school. In another five years, HIT will celebrate its centennial celebration, which is the common wish of all HITers. The Alumni Association will adhere to the motto of HIT, "being strict in qualifications, making every endeavor in educating students,” and actively promote contact between alumni, to serve the alumni, to provide alumni a spiritual home and to play a positive role in the expansion of international influence.
Former Vice President of HIT and the Alumni Association, SUN Heyi, on behalf of the school, issued letters of appointment to CHU Wei, presented a flag and delivered a congratulatory speech. He described the significant achievements and outstanding contributions of HIT in recent years. He said HIT Alumni have the power to promote the construction and development of HIT, and are the bridge between alumni and HIT. He encouraged alumni to work hard to improve and expand the reputation and influence of HIT.
The Consular of the Consular Affairs Section of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States, ZHUANG Yuanyuan, expressed his congratulations on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States on the establishment of the HIT Alumni Association - Washington, D.C.. He said the establishment of the Alumni Association enhanced contact between alumni and alumni, as well as alumni and HIT. He said that alumni can actively promote the development of China and contribute their efforts to promote cooperation between China and America.
President of the CAAGW, YANG Xiuzhu, president of China Washington Association, HE Ruyi, and former President of the Alumni Association of Tsinghua University, GAO Cheng, and claims specialist, ZHONG Jiayu, gave speeches. They expressed hope that the Alumni Association of HIT can continue to cooperate with the CAAGW.
