On March 11th, over 120 teachers and students in three majors (architecture, urban-rural planning management and landscape architecture) from Chongqing University, Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, South China University of Technology and HIT’s School of Architecture met together. They held a briefing to begin their thesis for their graduation project design of 2015 for “The Education Union of 4 Colleges”.

The joint graduation design topic was selected as, the "Reconstruction and activation -- Design of Urban Regional Land around Port of Harbin.” The students’ aim is to complete the design of the city, architecture and landscape in the designated region.  The project also intends to restructure industry, advance regional dynamism and optimize the regional transportation system.  What’s more, the project endeavors to improve the quality of space, environmental characteristics and to maintain the history of the area.

During the briefing, students from each of the three majors in four universities were divided into eight groups and visited the Harbin City Planning Exhibition Hall. Professor WU Songtao, deputy director of the Harbin City Planning Bureau, introduced the planning concepts of the designated region and its surroundings. After four days of research, teachers and students conducted a research results briefing. In the next months, teachers and students from different universities will continue to design. It is expected that they will come to Harbin again in mid-April for mid-term examining and additional research, and in June the oral defense will be conducted at the South China University of Technology.

It is reported that, "The Education Union of 4 Colleges” was founded in 2014 by four universities who are members of the eight famous architectural universities of China. The four universities, from different areas of China, have distinct teaching characteristics and specialties. The union among these different universities was intended to integrate multiple resources, and to promote exchange and cooperation among three first level disciplines, which also made a preliminary exploration for multi-discipline cooperation.
