Before Chinese Spring Festival, many staff remained on the front lines in order to ensure normal operation of the university. On February 18th (December 30th on the lunar calendar in China), HIT President ZHOU Yu and other leaders visited both campuses to express their appreciation to staff and workers for their hard work and selfless dedication. Additionally, school leaders celebrated Spring Festival with more than 500 remaining students and foreign students who did not travel over the holiday.
HIT President, ZHOU Yu, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, CAI Jujin, Vice Presidents GUO Bin, AN Shi and XU Dianguo visited boiler rooms, security departments, property management centers, hospitals, fleets of the two campuses and the substation monitoring center of the Science Park. At each place they greeted and shook hands with every staff member, and showed their heartfelt gratefulness for their busy work over the holidays. During the visit, school leaders gained a detailed understanding of the heating, power supply, safety and other critical operations of HIT and appealed to staff to stick to their work with cooperation, in order to ensure the smooth running of the school’s progress. School leaders also urged everyone to arrange their work and life during Spring Festival so they might enjoy the holidays with family. Staff showed their thanks for the school’s care and promised to complete their work tasks dutifully to create a safe and harmonious environment for teachers and students. President ZHOU Yu also visited remaining students at their dormitories and talked with them about their holiday arrangements for study and life. He also shared spring scene descriptions in ancient poetry with students and answered their questions. President ZHOU expressed hope that all students will achieve and gain great improvement.
After the visits, school leaders and relevant persons came to the dining all on the third floor of the Xueyuan Building to share dinner and celebrate New Year’s Eve with students. School leaders checked the New Year's Eve dinner prepared by the food center carefully and extended their best wishes to the staff. Within a well-dressed restaurant brimming with a rich and peaceful atmosphere of joy, the delight of the students was palpable.
President ZHOU made a speech on behalf of HIT to extend New Year’s greetings and holiday wishes. In his speech he first wished all the students a Happy New Year in the Chinese traditional way. Then he praised the students for having a substantial winter vacation to improve themselves while at HIT. During the winter vacation he saw some students summing up the achievement of last semester, some carefully planning learning tasks for the new semester, or earnestly preparing for various kinds of innovation competitions, showing their courage to rise to a challenge and their spirit of unremitting pursuit. President ZHOU believed that in the next year students would gain further achievement through creative efforts, and HIT would improve more in the process of becoming a world-class university as well. After the speech, he toasted with teachers and students to wish everyone to make their dreams come true early and to make a contribution to China’s dream. School leaders gave mascots of the year of the goat as New Year’s presents to teachers and students.
There were 245 remaining students and 287 foreign students in total who celebrated the New Year at school this Spring Festival. In order to give students a happy celebration, HIT prepared red envelopes (containing money as a gift), a sumptuous dinner for New Year’s Eve and free warm dinner from Lunar January the 1st through the 3rd for every student. In addition, the Logistics Group and each college also actively prepared a series of various activities for teachers and students to enjoy a warm and happy Spring Festival.
Relevant persons in charge of the School Office, the Student Affairs Department, the Graduate Student Work Department, the Communist Youth League School, the Logistics Group, the Security Department, the International Student Center, and the Foundation Faculty participated in the events.
