On March 28th, HIT students on second campus participated in the “Earth Hour” event by turning off the lights and going out to enjoy the “ Earth Hour Carnival” held by the HIT Green Association.
Eight kinds of activities were included in the “Earth Hour Carnival”, including “Dark Rock Concert,” “Confession Activity,” “Quiz on Environment Protection,” “Crossing the Barrier in the Dark,” “Shadow and Light Experience Activity,” “Enjoying the Stars,” “Shooting Basketball,” and “Biking”. The activities aimed to encourage students to approach nature, to learn about environmental protection and to voluntarily participate in environmental protection activities in a relaxed atmosphere.
At 20:30, with the turning off of the lights on the Dragon Tower (the landmark building of Harbin), the apartments on second campus all turned off their lights, the climax of the carnival. At 21:30 (the end of the activity), hundreds of students standing at the foot of apartment B03 confessed their love of the earth, showing their love for the “earth mother,” another high point in the evening’s activities.
Besides the HIT Green Association, other student societies like the HIT Rock Society, the HIT Amateur Astronomers Association and the HIT Cycling Association also took part in “Earth Hour.”
General Information:
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held worldwide annually, encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 20:30 to 21:30, as a symbol of their commitment to the planet. In response to the topic of climate change, the 2015 “Earth Hour” in China focused on the issue of most concern—smog. “Earth Hour” continued to encourage the development of renewable energy and launched the “Earth Hour Blue” initiative.
