Recently, the latest 2015 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), whose head quarter is located in London, England, ‘Discipline Ranking of World Universities has been officially released. Ten disciplines of HIT were in the list. And HIT is the university with most disciplines listed among universities affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Information and universities in three northeast provinces of China.
Among all the listed disciplines, Civil and Structural Engineering is the highest ranking discipline of HIT (rank 51~100); Materials Science (rank 101~150); Chemical Engineering and Technology, Space and Machinery Manufacturing and Electronic and Electrical Engineering (rank 151~200); Mathematics and Environmental Science (rank 201~250); Computer Science and Information System (rank 251~300); Physics and Chemistry (rank 301~400). All of the ten listed disciplines belong to the category of Engineering and Natural Science in the system of discipline ranking by QS, including main Engineering and Science disciplines of HIT. Thus, the development level and overall strength of HIT can be seen.
Discipline Ranking of World Universities by QS in 2015 is the largest list with 36 disciplines in history. The evaluation index system can be divided into four categories: investigation of discipline prestige, investigation of employer reputation, times of references cited and high-end scientific achievements (H-factor). The scores of each index system are based on the professional opinions of 85062 scholars and 41910 employers from more than 100 countries and data analysis of 17,300,000 academic publications and more than 1,000,000,000 references (referral database of Scopus/Elsevier).
