For 15 years, The Green Union of HIT annually organizes a large-scale tree-planting activity, and up till now, there have been a total of 26,000 participants with 55,000 trees planted. On the morning of April 26, Green Union organized the 2015 tree-planting activity where more than 2,500 HIT students, staff and their children (some middle and primary school students), and citizens went to plant trees at Taiping Town on the outskirts of Harbin. One person said, "I am pleased to have the opportunity to participate in this tree-planting activity organized by The Green Union of HIT. After experiencing the dust storms, I’m fully aware of the significance of protecting our environment."
There was so much sand flying up in the air. Although it is spring now, there was still little sight of green. Among the sandstorm were green flags fluttering in the wind, which was particularly striking. All the teams worked together to plant trees and water them. Lots of the saplings were grown and stood straight in the wind.
There was a special group of people within the team that included more than 600 students under the leadership of the HIT Education Development Foundation staff together planting trees. "We all have once benefited from the HIT Education Development Foundation, and we are satisfied and responsible to take actions to contribute to the community this time." Speaking of this activity, Secretary-general of the Foundation ZHENG Shixian said that the " HIT Education Development Foundation spent more than 10 million every year on funding and rewarding six or seven thousand students financially. We don’t only finance them to learn and carry out scientific and technological innovation, but also hope to cultivate the students to return to the society and community by supporting education, tree planting and other public welfare activities."
One of the students said "Before arriving here, I did not think the environment here would be this bad. At this moment, I can deeply feel the significance of my planting the saplings here. It will be a towering tree for wind prevention and sand fixation." At the end, everyone reluctantly left their planted saplings. Their eyes flashed with “green” hope and social responsibility. Some students said they would only talk about the idea to contribute to our society, and they always felt a little bit empty. Now, suddenly they realized that people could do small things like planting a tree to add a touch of green to society.
