On May 23th, there were many teams standing orderly in front of the Zhengxin building, in which students looked like soldiers going into battle because they all wanted to win the physics contest. This was the opening ceremony of the Heilongjiang Province 3rd and HIT 4th Annual Undergraduate Physics Tournament. After fierce competition, there were 9 teams at HIT that won awards.
CUPT is a national competition, which learns the pattern of IYPT (international youth physical tournament). The competition is conducted in teams, during which there are seventeen contest problems published a year in advance. Participants develop scientific research approaches answering the problems and an open debate is held in the competition. During the competition, the teams are divided into three sides, including the pros group, cons group and comment group, which will show their reports and then debate on the research results. Judges will score the players in the three groups based on their performance. This competition is intended to improve the students’ ability of application of knowledge in physics, which challenges the students in analyzing and solving physical problems in order to cultivate the students' innovative thinking.
On the morning of the competition, as soon as the reporter went to the fourth floor in the Zhengxin building, she heard a fierce debate in the classroom. In the classroom, the pros group was discussing the physical model with a student in cons group; meanwhile their teammates delivered a small piece of paper to them, and the judges were carefully listening to the statement of the contest players and scored them. Compared to the last one, this competition has attracted more than ninety students from six universities in Heilongjiang Province to participate. After four competitions, two teams at HIT won the first prize of the provincial awards.
HIT will select outstanding students who will comprise the HIT team of the China Undergraduate Physics Tournament to participate in the 6th China Undergraduate Physics Tournament in August 2015.
