The 52nd HIT University Sports Meeting was held from May 29th to 30th with the theme of “National Fitness, Chase Dream, Unite and Strive, Pursue Excellence”. The athletes gave everything they had in competing, challenging themselves, and achieving outstanding results. Party Secretary WANG Shuquan, Secretary of the Supervision Division CAI Jujin, Assistant Principal PENG Yuankui, ZHEN Liang and LIU Hong attended the opening ceremony, and presented awards to the advanced units of “Sunshine Sports” and the top 10 athletes.

The Department of Physical Education director WANG Ke presided over the opening ceremony. Secretary of the Supervision Division CAI said in his speech, the sports meeting was an important part in HIT’s sports and cultural life, and it provided a stage for HIT teachers and students to exhibit themselves. The sports meeting can be seen as a centralized review of HIT sports work. From 2014 to 2015, HIT implemented the "National Fitness Program", which actively promoted the concept of keeping healthy, established a sports work committee, and launched the "cultural construction of staff’s health". These activities have created a good environment of sports culture, enhanced teachers and students’ health awareness, and injected vigor and vitality for the development of our school. Finally, he hoped that the students and staff would develop a healthy lifestyle like participating in bodybuilding and put effort and energy to build HIT to be a comprehensive and world-class university.

In 2014, the advanced units of “Sunshine Sports” this year were the School of Economy and Management, School of Astronautics, Department of Basic Education, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Civil Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, School of Transportation Science and Technology, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Architecture, and School of Municipal and Environmental Engineering. The top 10 athletes were ZHAO Hailiang, NI Jingjiao, LIU Zhanming, ZHAO Xingmeng, HAN Qingping, HOU Boyang, ZHANG Qiming, WANG Li’an, GAO Zhiyu, and SUN Haiying.

In the opening ceremony, all the units, groups, and representatives walked in order with a tidy pace and energy to the podium to accept review. A Tai Chi performance from the Department of Physical Education and Martial Art Association of HIT marked the beginning of the group gymnastics performances. Performers from the Department of Physical Education did ten sets of calisthenics to radio music. The Martial Art Association of HIT performed "Shape and Thought Boxing". The learners of the elder university danced to the music of Little Apple (a popular song). They were united in movement, and in either sharp or gentle in action won applause from the audience.

On the field, every athlete displayed their best self and impressed others. Competitors in the 100-meter dash rushed to the end like an arrow; competitors in the long jump leaped in the air and dived down like eagles; competitors in the shot-put event threw sharply with a scream, which made the shot draw a beautiful arc in the air; the competitors in the high jump challenged the height one after another. During the marathon competition all did their best to chase others. Although, they were exhausted with sweat streaming down, they still struggled to the finishing line. All the athletes did their best to interpret the Olympic spirit, including hurdlers, discus throwers and javelin throwers.

The fun games between teachers and students were also exciting, such as running with a ball on the back, basketball skills, slow bike riding, two people coordination race, kangaroo hop relay, push and pull and rope skipping. On the field, the modern dances by the cheer squads were fascinating and won enthusiastic applause from the audience. The referees and other staff worked hard and the leaders of HIT came onto the field to meet the teachers and students. The HIT labor union set up a service station to provide service for the staff and students.

The two-day sports meeting ended with a helicopter and rockets performance by the HIT Model Airplane Association. CAI, PENG and ZHEN presented awards to representatives from the winning groups. ZHEN delivered a closing speech.
