On June 8，the opening ceremony of the 2015 HIT“Large data and Business Analysis” international graduate summer school was held at the Science Park. DING Xuemei, vice president, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
In DING's speech, she introduced a series of outstanding achievements obtained by HIT during its ninety-five years of school development. Also, shared were the results obtained by the school of management since it’s founding. The hope is that further exchange between the scholars from China and foreign countries will be strengthened. DING continued by talking about establishing long-term cooperative relations, in order to promote high-level academic research results. She concluded by stating that students should seize this precious opportunity to learn, through teachers’ help and student exchanges to constantly improve their research and academic ability as well as to make a first-class academic research experience.
JU Xiaofeng, secretary of the Party Committee of the school of management，hosted the meeting, while YE Qiang, Dean of the school of management, delivered the speech at the opening ceremony. Professor Paul, chief academic adviser at HIT and the representative of summer school teachers, and LIU Xianwei, the representative of summer school students and a PhD student at HIT, delivered speeches.
It was reported that the school of management actively adapted to the changing trends of technology -- large data and emerging needs of society，and has begun preparations to create a new major "Business Analytics(BA)", putting “large data” as one of the science research directions for the key construction of the school while combining its advantages and characteristics. At present, there are sixty students in this major. Additionally, building a “large data” club will help expand the platform for student exchanges.
This summer school invited famed experts and scholars from China and overseas universities from the US such as, NYU (New York University), ASU (Arizona State University), UIUC（University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign）and Tsinghua University to give lessons which includes large data and marketing, large data and electronic health, academic research guide for undergraduates as well as discussions and paper study with internationally well-known scholars. The trainees joining this summer school were 236 teachers and students from eighty-three universities from seven countries.
