China-Australia University Summit on Teaching & Learning 2015 (CAUSTL 2015), jointly organized by The University of Adelaide and HIT, was held from November 5th to 6th at The University of Adelaide. Vice President Ding Xuemei led a delegation to attend the Summit, including related staff of HIT’s Undergraduate College, International HIT, the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation and the School of Computer Science and Technology.
The theme of CAUSTL 2015 was cooperation and innovation: teaching and learning in the context of globalization. More than 60 representatives from 16 universities and institutions including the Department of Education and Training of Australian Government, the United States National Institute for Evaluation of Teaching Outcomes, China 9 (C9), Group of Eight (Go8) and the University of Sheffield.
Ding Xuemei delivered speeches respectively at the opening and closing ceremonies, hoping that through the platform CAUSTL, top universities of China and Australia could seize favorable opportunities to continually explore new ways of cooperation, share advanced ideas and cultivate innovation talent with global vision. Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham, Director of the United States National Institute for Evaluation of Teaching Outcomes George D • Kuh, Hon Executive Vice President of the University of Sheffield Bauer White and Vice Dean of Tsinghua University Zheng Li were invited to make thematic reports at the Summit. Twelve representatives from C9 and Go8 made reports at parallel sessions. They conducted intensive exchanges and discussions on the issues of globalised development of teaching and learning, outcome-oriented teaching evaluation, innovation and entrepreneurial education models of college students, exploration and application of new teaching methods and improving teaching ability by cooperation.
Harbin Institute of Technology - The University of Adelaide Student Science Competition was held during the summit. Twelve student innovation teams recommended by the two universities had a heated rivalry. Eventually two teams of HIT respectively won the first prizes in projects of mechanical engineering and computer science.
CAUSTL was launched jointly by HIT and The University of Adelaide against the background of the globalization of higher education. The first CAUSL was held in July 2014 at HIT. As a major outcome of the summit, China and Australia signed the Harbin Declaration, aiming to further expand and promote the long-term friendly and cooperative relations among the two countries’ universities and related institutions in the field of teaching and student development.
