The Commemorative Meeting of 5·17 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Held in HIT

On May 17th, organized by Heilongjiang Administration of Communication and HIT, the Commemorative Meeting of 5·17 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was held in the Activity Center. Mr. Liu Maoxian, the Director of Heilongjiang Administration of Communication, and Zhang Hongtao, the Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of HIT, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

During the speech, Mr. Liu pointed out that the theme of this year’s World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was “ICT entrepreneurship for social impact”, which focused on the fundamental, strategic and public status of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in economic and social development, calling for society as a whole to act together to advance innovation entrepreneurship development. He also said that with the accelerating development of some new technology and business, like big data, cloud computing and the Internet of Things, everything was connected to each other. The development of the Internet had stepped into a new stage, expanding a new space for people’s study, work and life, and building a new platform to get public services.

Zhang Hongtao introduced some basic information of HIT in his speech. He pointed out that, as one of important bases of national and provincial technical research, achievements transformation, and high-quality personnel training, HIT had made a positive contribution to advance the development of telecommunication and information industry, and benefited from the boom of telecommunication industry in teaching, scientific research, Smart Campus construction and synchronous development of three campuses under one university. He suggested that through this meeting, HIT and Heilongjiang Administration of Communication would further deepen cooperation, contributing further to the telecommunication and information industry in China. Students were expected to take social development and progress as their mission, working hard to learn professional knowledge, devoting themselves to the telecommunication and information industry, growing into a capable and responsible HITer.

At the meeting, Yao Jiakang, Deputy Director of Heilongjiang Administration of Communication, recommended the publication and distribution of the 2015 White Paper on the Development of the Communications Industry in Heilongjiang, 2015 Statistics Reports of the Internet Development in Heilongjiang, and news compilation of Promotion of Telecommunications Regulation Transformation and Optimization of the Environment of the Industry Development. Professor Lü Tingjie of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, President Jing Xiaojun of Surfilter Network Incorporated Company, and representative of Harbin Ran Zhuo Technology Company, a start-up enterprise run by students in HIT, made keynote speeches respectively. More than 400 people from the provincial communications industry and all walks of life participated in the meeting.
