On 5th June, “Liu Dong Zhong Guo - International Students Sunshine Sports & Culture Tour” and The 2nd International Culture Carnival of Harbin Institute of Technology was held in HIT. The deputy director general of Education Department of Heilongjiang Province Zhao Lin and Secretary of the CPC Committee of Harbin Institute of Technology Wang Shuquan struck the gong together for the opening ceremony of this activity.
Vice president academician Ren Nanqi delivered an opening speech. He hoped that through this activity we could continue to enhance the international campus atmosphere, construct a good environment which will attract and breed more international top scientists and outstanding students from both home and abroad. A good environment is beneficial to improve the school’s overall image and train high competent people which have international consciousness, ability of international communication and international competitive capacity. Meanwhile, this activity is a “gift” of the 100th anniversary of the HIT’s founding.
11 teams from Heilongjiang province present their brilliant performances. The team of HIT preformed a show combined dancing with Chinese traditional Hanfu and Changing Faces in Sichuan Opera; the team of Heilongjiang University Of Chinese Medicine present a Wuqinxi - five mimic-animal exercise which reappeared the Chinese ancient exercising way; the team of Heilongjiang University performed a set of shadowbox firstly and then showed a hot dance with modern dressing... This opening ceremony combined the traditional and modern art, which is a cultural integration between exotic cultures and Chinese traditional cultures. Teams of all schools present excellent performances which created a fascinating audio-visual feast.
Singing, laughter, music, cheering... During the performance, the pedestrian street has already become the sea of joy. Students with different color skin, nation and languages dressed their own countries’ cloth talked and interacted with people enthusiastically. Different kinds of foods, cloth and artifacts with their nations’ special features attracted passers-by to keep stopping to have a look. The short pedestrian street seems to cover the whole world.
At every country’s booth, there are enthusiastic volunteers to introduce the general situation and local customs and practices of the country. Besides students and teachers of HIT, students of other schools, parents with baby child, and even some elders were attracted to here by its reputation. People held the country name list which can stick all national flags in this paper. During the visiting, people interacted with international students, some answer the questions they posed for getting the national flag sticker, some took photos with different faces, some learned the national dance. This carnival not only a feast for the people of HIT, but also a platform for people who are interested in the colorful world cultures to have interactions.
