On September 26, from the "Flight Cup" the third National Future Aircraft Design Competition final came some good news. Under the guidance of two instructors, Sun Jian and Xu Cheng, the first-year graduates from Aerospace Institute of HIT, Guan Qinghua, Cao Pengyu, and Du Linzhe jointly won the only Grand Prize in the competition with their production "Ray" (the multi-task variant unmanned aerial vehicle ) standing out from 284 different works.
"This competition is a rare opportunity for us to learn from others, to test ourselves, to apply theory to practice and to deepen our understanding of theory in practice. The future development of aircraft needs continual innovation and our joint efforts.” A member of the team, Guan Qinghua said. The design of the multi-task variant unmanned aerial vehicle "Ray" was inspired from a kind of fish— the ray. It enjoys many favorable advantages, such as low cost, rapid response, long life, long range, formations of collaboration and data sharing, high efficiency in search and anti-search, and denying easy discovery and attack by other aircrafts.
It is reported that this competition was held by the China Aerospace Science and the Chinese Academy of Astronautics, with various design Themes, covering aerospace aircraft, bionic aircraft, micro aircraft, near space high dynamic aircraft, intelligent collaborative group aircraft. The teams participating in this competition covers almost all domestic colleges and universities with aircraft design major.
