Recently, China’s newly developed Long March V carrier rocket first flight mission achieved full success. The metal rubber damping ring developed by Prof. Jiang Hongyuan and the key members of the team Ao Hongrui, Yan Hui and Ren Yukun from the Institute of Metal and Rubber Technology of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of our school have been successfully applied on the Long March V rocket engine. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation Sixth Research Institute sent a congratulatory letter.

Metal rubber technology is a special technology to solve the technical problems in the aerospace field like high vacuum, large temperature difference, strong radiation and other extreme conditions of vibration damping. Metal rubber damping ring is provided with designable damping performance, the combination of structure can achieve the vibration isolation under complex mechanical environment equipment.

Depending on the R & D base and advantages of Harbin Institute of Technology, Metal Rubber Research Institute focuses on the major demand of the areas like the aerospace and weapons and equipment, targeting the technical bottlenecks of damping vibration attenuation and sealing under a special working environment, preparing different metal rubber components to meet the different working conditions and different structural requirements, some metal rubber components successfully replaced imported components of important equipment, and have been successfully applied in Chang’e III landers and other tasks.
