Recently, results of the 1st selection of outstanding doctoral dissertation in the field of measurement control and instrument measuring appliance held by the China Instrument and Control Society were announced. Dr. Yang Ruotao supervised by Prof. Tan Jiubin of HIT won the nomination of outstanding doctoral thesis. The thesis was titled Study on the Multi-wavelength Absolute Distance Measurement Based on the Heterodyne Dual Optical Frequency Combs.
Optical frequency comb is a new type of laser characterized by equal frequency and multi-spectrum frequency. Currently, it has received extensive attention in the fields of ultra-precision geometrical measurement, precision spectrum analysis and time-frequency reference transmission. Dr. Yang Ruotao proposed a heterodyne dual optical frequency comb and digital lock-in detection based phase separation and extraction method, set up the accurate power spectrum model of the offset-locked optical frequency comb, and accuracy of the model proposed in this paper is one order of magnitude better than the existing approximate model. By using the multi-comb rangefinder information fusion technology, the limitation of the phase error to the ranging accuracy is reduced by 62.4%. All in all, it has considered measurements of both ranges and has achieved large range, high speed and accuracy. The relevant research results were published on Optics Letters, Measurement Science and Technology and other leading periodicals of this field, and it has authorized or applied for eight China invention patents. The above research has laid a solid foundation for developing the world-class large space-size precision measuring instruments independently, and has reserved potent support and guaranteed technologies for developing large advanced scientific experimental devices and manufacturing equipment in China.
It is said that more than 100 doctoral thesis of dozens of universities across the country were shortlisted in the selection of outstanding doctoral dissertation. A total of five outstanding doctoral thesis and 5 outstanding doctoral thesis nominations were selected.
