The competition of steel-structure innovation among national college students is a national competition which is sponsored by Chinese Steel Structure Association. The theme of this competition is “fabricated green hospitals or schools”. It attracted more than 50 colleges and universities, in which eleven designs went through to the final. Wu Hangzi, Xu Xiaotong, Xia Xinlei, Zhang Ying, Wu Guanzheng who are postgraduates from school of civil engineering of HIT formed a trans-disciplinary design team with Liu Chuanqi who comes from the school of architecture. They designed a proposal of “Dujiangyan Leyu experimental primary school” under the supervision of Professor Wu Yue who comes from the school of civil engineering. They blended some new techniques in their design which were independently researched or improved on by themselves, such as “box-shape” steel frame units, prestressing fabricated cast steel joints, beam column integrity structural measures, controllable swing self-centering anti-seismic system and green humanized three-board system, etc. The design work won approval from specialists and judges thus finally winning the Outstanding Award.
