On December 16th, Cheng Huiming, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of Advanced Carbon Division of Institute of Metal Research of Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of Low-Dimensional Materials and Devices Laboratory (LDMD) of Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI), attended HIT’s Science Forum, and delivered a speech entitled Preparation and Application Exploration of Graphene Materials. Vice President An Shi met Academician Cheng and awarded him a Science Forum Guest Speaker appointment letter.
In the speech, with “Carbon” as the core and the story of a scientist who won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering graphene as the beginning, Academician Cheng vividly described the development of graphene materials, analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of various preparation methods of graphene materials and the potential applications of graphene materials prepared by each method. The speech extended from two-dimensional to three-dimensional graphene network structures, multi-layered porous carbon materials, surface structure control of carbon, and the applications of graphene materials in electrical storage, such as lithium batteries and super capacitors. The applications of graphene materials in flexible electronic field were also proposed. The speech won the warm applause from teachers and students. In the interaction session, Academician Cheng answered questions from teachers and students.
During the visit, Academician Cheng visited Institute of Composite Materials and Structures of the School of Astronautics, and conducted exchanges about the application of carbon nanotubes and graphene materials in new materials with teachers of the School of Astronautics and the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
Academician Cheng mainly engages in advanced carbon materials research. He has delivered more than 130 invited lectures in international and domestic conferences, and published more than 500 academic papers, which have been cited more than 40,000 times. He is one of the Highly Cited Researchers in chemistry and material fields reported by Thomson Reuters, has obtained nearly 100 patents of invention, won the second prize of National Natural Science Award, the second prize of National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award, and Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award. He has served as editor-in-chief and deputy editor-in-chief of many domestic and foreign authoritative journals.
