“HIT President Zhou Yu Talks with Students Regularly”——this was the title of a news report two years ago, it reported a face-to-face communication between President Zhou Yu and students in the library in April, 2015.
During that exchange, President Zhou Yu made a commitment to students present that he would regularly talk with students, and he welcomed more communication with students in any place of school. In the past two years, President Zhou Yu has held series of talks with students in the classroom, the activity center, and the fundamental subjects departments respectively, through which he was able to get to know students’ information and get much advice on college management. In the afternoon of March, 16, President Zhou Yu held a conversation with the students in the newly opened seminar classroom, room314 in the Main Building. He listened the thoughts of students, and knew their needs, and then he inspired students to study the scientific spirit and patriotism of Qian Xuesen, devoting oneself to study.
In the seminar classroom, one student is special. He is Kong Boran, a junior student majoring in engineering and nuclear technology in the Department of Energy. It is the third time for him to have a face to face communication with President Zhou Yu. The first time was in the last term of his freshman, during which Kong put forward his confusion about ideals and dreams at the President Zhou Yu’s speech in the HIT second campus. The second time, President Zhou Yu made a special visit to the fundamental subjects department to hold a conversation with students in class 14025021 of Kong Boran. President Zhou Yu answered their questions, solved the confusion, and expected students stick to their ideals finishing the study. The third time talking with President Zhou Yu, Kong Boran is no longer hesitant, but full of confident and sincere, sharing with others his consideration of growing up and giving suggestions on the school development. Zhou Yu gave specific explanations.
The reporter noticed that, before the seminar started, students were leafing through Letters of Qian Xuesen, and Manuscripts of Qian Xuesen, which has been recommended many times. In the conversation, president shared his thoughts with students, “those letters collected from 1955 to 2000, more than half a century, reflected the scientific ideas and wisdom guiding Qian Xuesen in his behavior, research and principles. People who received the letters include leaders, scholars, and ordinary people. Even if a middle school teacher asked Qian Xuesen questions, he would give patient feedback.” President Zhou Yu said, for young people, it is necessary to study Qian’s spirit, especially his rigorous, perseverance in study. Young people should take action from now.
Students’ mentality and study are keeping a big concern of president, and a focus when talking with students. In the beginning of the spring term, President Zhou noticed that some students were absent minded, and did not have the habit of writing notes. In the seminar, he showed his mathematics and physics textbooks marked with notes of his college days. The reporter noticed, the end of each chapter was pasted with several notes written in red or blue color, on which was the summary of each chapter. Zhou Yu used a sentence “the faded writing better than the strongest memory” to inspire students keep note-taking as a habit, a good character, and a culture.
President Zhou Yu emphasized, study is a kind of duty when you are student. He encouraged students to focus on study initially recognizing the study purpose as a motivation. The prospect and future of a nation relies on the youth generation, relying on their ideals and responsibilities. A HIT student should have a wide vision, deep concerns and more consideration, to review oneself and do one’s duty on the perspective of the country and nation, to connect own development with the national fate closely, bearing the responsibility given by the time. President Zhou Yu continued, both ideal and practice is important. A successful career starts from the every fundamental procedure and every good habit you formed, which owes to a devoted research spirit in your major.
For the specific problems reflected by students in study and life, Zhou Yu replied to each question and asked the related officials to expand methods of communication, providing a problem list, a task list, and a responsibility list, to solve problems effectively, providing a good environment and safe guarantee for students learning and teachers teaching.
Other people attended the seminar including Zhang Hongtao, the deputy secretary of HIT communist party and vice president of HIT, Wu Songquan, the member of standing committee of HIT communist party and administer of propaganda, Peng Yuankui, the president assistant, and other related people.
