On August 25, International Conference on Composite Materials (ICCM) 21 presided by Academician Du Shanyi and executively presided by Professor Leng Jinsong ended in Xi'an. Professor Leng Jinsong won the 2017 World Fellows Award, and was elected as the vice chairman of International Committee on Composite Materials. World Fellow is awarded by the International Committee on Composite Materials in recognition of the scholars who has made outstanding contributions in field of composite materials research or industrial development. Academician Du Shanyi was awarded as the first Chinese Scientist in 2015.

During the conference, the "International Engineering Technology Development Strategy High-end Forum -- Equipment Structure Weight-reducing and Advanced Composite Materials Forum" was sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and hosted by the Department of Mechanical and Transportation Engineering and the Chinese Society for Composite Materials. More than 20 academicians and hundreds of experts and scholars at home and abroad attended the conference. Academician Du Shanyi and Prof. He Xiaodong gave keynote lectures on "Lightweight and Composite Materials" and "Low Dimensional Nano Carbon Macrocosmic Body and Its Composites" respectively.

International Conference on Composite Materials is held every two years, and is the largest with highest academic level and the most influential composite materials academic conference in the world. The theme, “the innovation and development of advanced composite materials” of this conference, is aiming to promote the exchange views of experts from various countries through the discussion of various disciplines in the field of composite materials, and to showcase the latest research and industrialization achievements in the field of international composites and promote the cooperation and development of composite materials experts.
