On the afternoon of October 26th, the doctorate conferring ceremony was held in the auditorium of the HIT museum. Zhou Yu-president of HIT, moved the tassels of the PhD academic caps for 181 graduates who obtained doctorates, expressed his sincere wishes and took a group photo with them.

Zhou Yu said that the 19th CPC National Congress, which caught the attention of the entire world, had concluded successfully. Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of China made an important report during the opening ceremony. He pointed out that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered into a new era. China is poised at a new historical position for national development through long-term efforts. This is an inspiring era, one cannot be wasted. It is an era when we will encourage people to forge ahead. He assured the graduates of their bright future, one in which they can make great achievements.

As a teacher, Zhou Yu presented his hope with 3 “tips” to the graduates. First, they shall lead others more and follow others less. They shall be warriors who dared to take responsibilities in the new era. Our nation could be prosperous only if the young thrived. Our nation could be strong only if the young were strong enough. If the young generation had ambition, talent and commitment, the nation had bright future and the people had hope. The commitment, was the confidence that one shouldered the mission in the era, the courage that one made persistent efforts when facing difficulties, and the strong sense of mission that one to be the builders and successors of the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. One shall take the need of the society as one’s own responsibility and integrate the individual ambition with human development, national progress and rejuvenation, not only satisfying the fact of being an outstanding engineer, a qualified public servant, an excellent worker of an enterprise and so on, but being the leaders in different fields with the spirit of taking responsibilities. Second, one shall innovate more and imitate others less, and one shall be the strong person who pursued excellence in the new era. Opportunities and challenges co-existed in the world. In the world where competition among countries was growing in intensity, only the innovator could make progress, get stronger and finally win. The General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out in his report made on the opening ceremony of the 19th CPC National Congress that innovation was the primary energy that pushed forward the development and the strategic support of the building of modern economic system. All of you shall put the innovative method, mind and spirit that formed in your doctoral study period into job. And one shall not only be a rigorous, conscientious and dedicated person who not sought fame and wealth and was ready to be ordinary, but be dare to question and challenge things and do whatever others didn’t do as well as bore loneliness, pursued excellence and maintained the courage and perseverance pursuing innovation to achieve more success, striving to be the brave person who tried whatever he could to overcome difficulties in the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics and realized the youth dream in the live realization of China Dream. Third, one shall make steady progress more and be less fickle, and one shall be the wiser who pursued dream in the new era. One could get a satisfactory result with his original intention, however, the original intention was easy to get but hard to defend. Now, we were in an era full of hope, but we were also in an impetuous times. The increasing intensive competition made people stop thinking. The increasing rapid pace of life made people forget to defend. And the more convenient scientific and technological product made people lost themselves. In the environment full of fickleness and temptation, usually, the process the successful struggled was ignored by people. And I hoped that everyone could have a spirit of taking steady steps without hurry and haste and a decent social complex. Maintaining a spirit of being steady and quiet to defend various temptation in your life as well as perseverance, one shall keep strong sense of responsibility and mission to the nation and people, keep loving the nature, human beings and the world as well as keep the nation, social responsibility and the world in the mind.

Finally, Zhou Yu said: “dear students, your study time is short but precious. Your scroll of life is opening up. You young fellows have a long journey to go and you all have bright future. I sincerely hope that you have a successful career sue to your perseverance, and you have a bright future due to your great effort. In your journey, be a brave, strong wiser and make achievements beneficial to yourself, others and the world! I also hope that you can keep focusing on the growth of HIT, give your suggestions to the development of HIT and make greater contribution to HIT on its way to be a one-hundred-year world-famous university with Chinese characteristics and HIT ones.

Ding Xuemei, vice president of HIT, announced the decision on conferring doctorates by the academic degrees committee of HIT. After the verification of the 163th conference of the academic degrees committe of HIT, 181 students obtained their doctorates, 9 of whom got doctor degree of science, 152 got doctor degree of science in engineering, 18 got doctor degree in administration and 2 got doctor degree of engineering.

Professor He Yurong from the school of energy science and engineering, the representative of the supervisors, presented hopes to the graduates as follows: one shall be grateful and plunge into dedication. Besides, one shall be modest and take steady steps. Don’t be careless when getting satisfied or frustrated. Whenever you are in favourable circumstances or dilemma, forge ahead without stop. Wish you can realize your dream and make achievement in your youth and present the spirit of working hard and pursuing excellence of HIT by shouldering responsibility and keeping going.

Zhao Lei from the school of chemistry and chemical engineering, the representative of the graduates shared his 9-year hardworking and excellence-pursuing campus life. Besides, he called on postgraduates to set strict standard with the motto of HIT-Accuracy and Proficiency, contribute to China Dream by realizing the youth dreams and strive to be outstanding young people with ambition, talent and responsibility, contributing youth, wisdom and power in building prosperous, democratic, civilized, harmonious, beautiful and powerful modern socialist country.

The doctorate conferring ceremony ended in the meanwhile the graduates sang the school song.
