In the final session of the 11th National Structure Design Contest for College Students held from October 18th to 22nd, 2017, a team made up of undergraduate students Wu Jinfeng, Lu Hao and Li Xinye from the School of Civil Engineering, under the guidance of two teachers of Shao Yongsong and Wang Hongshan, won the first prize with their entry "Soaring Whirlwind ". HIT also won the excellent organization award.
The National Structural Design Contest for College Students is one of nine national competitions for college students established by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. 1182 teams from 506 colleges and universities all around the country participated in the contest this year. Nearly 6000 teachers and students attended the competition. 108 teams from 107 colleges and universities including HIT, Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University and others reached the national finals.
