With Guqin, Lv opera, Tibetan song, and treasured scrolls of calligraphy and painting, a burst of "the most dazzling ethnic style" blew across our campus during October. More than 40 activities celebrating traditional Chinese culture were presented. Well over 11,000 students and teachers participated.
In order to implement the strategic goal for cultural enrichment set out at the Party's 19th National Congress and to promote traditional Chinese traditional culture, a wide variety of school organizations participated in a series of activities with the theme of "China•Youth". There were three major categories: "Youth Speaking", "Youth Show", and "Youth Action". A rich demonstration of traditional Chinese culture covered every corner of the campus!
With traditional cultural exchange as the theme, "Youth Speaking" led students to fully appreciate the essence of traditional culture with a variety of guests and interesting reports. Professor LI Sheng, the former secretary of the school party committee, SUN Donghui, national champion from the 4th season of "Chinese Good Poetry", and Professor WANG Lanrong, vocal coach from the Peking Opera Association appeared on the stage addressing those in attendance. They talked about the tradition of 800 warriors, the traditional charm of the Peking Opera, the artistic concepts from poetry and songs, and the history of various operas. At the same time, a number of cultural associations and organizations conducted tea culture exchanges, calligraphy exchanges, hometown traditional culture exchanges and poetry recitations. Through these exchanges students could actively participate in our rich cultural heritage.
Traditional theatrical performance were the centerpiece for the "Youth Show." Various art forms such as traditional crosstalk, Lv Opera, folk music, and the Guqin concert were enjoyed by all! Among those performing were: Lv Opera Theater from Jinan City, Shandong Province, Art Troupe and Acrobatic Troupe, and Harbin Conservatory of Music from Heilongjiang province. Each gave wonderful performance for teachers and students in attendance. In addition there was folk music, the third Tibetan Culture Festival, a Guqin Concert, and a dance Show. These were staged one after another, demonstrating the versatility of HIT students and their love for our traditional culture. Traditional culture corridor preaching, a Taiji culture display, a demonstration of traditional etiquette provided teachers and students with experiences of traditional culture from different themes and different angles.
Providing even more opportunities for participation, "Youth Action" involved many students and teachers in riddles, chess, Chongyang Festival activities, and trivia competitions. Chinese and foreign students came together to make dumplings. Students had opportunities to visit historic buildings. Wushu enthusiasts presented traditional martial arts. Each of these activities added to the enjoyment of actually participating in traditional Chinese culture.
"Harbin University Students Guqin Concert", "A Traditional Cultural Experience Tour", "Chinese Character Dictation Contest", "Traditional Lantern Riddles", "Books That Inspire Life", "Dance with Chinese Style" were just some of the other activities organized by several colleges providing a variety of forms and distinctive themes for all to enjoy!
