November 18th and 19th 2017, the Ministry of Education hosted the 10th National Conference for Undergraduates on Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Dalian Maritime University. It was a joyful celebration of the 10th anniversary of the conference. HIT won the Best Organization Award. In addition, the entrepreneurship project "Magnetostrictive Torsion Guide Wave Defect Detector," conducted by MA Zaojun, LI Zhanpeng, WANG Shengbin, JIA Wenbin, LI Ce from School of Electrical Engineering & Automation at HIT, was given the honor of “My Favorite Project” at the Conference.
Since the first National Conference for Undergraduates on Innovation and Entrepreneurship was held ten years ago HIT has focused on the foundation, practice, process and innovation in personnel training. We have adhered to theoretical study, technological innovation, and entrepreneurship. HIT established the "four-in-one" innovation and entrepreneurship education system which includes curriculum systems, training systems, platform systems and security systems. All levels of students at HIT have participated in the National Conference of Undergraduate on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The result is a growing increase in the number of projects and participants. As of June 2017, the number of innovative experimental programs and innovation and entrepreneurship training programs for undergraduates from HIT has totaled 5,848. 1006 have been granted state-level funding. More than 15,000 students and 2,000 teachers from HIT have participated. In previous conferences, 34 finalists and 14 winners have been from HIT. Our students have published 284 papers in international and domestic academic journals and obtained 137 patents. Each year, over 800 innovation and entrepreneurship awards at the national level or above have been awarded to our students. For the last three years the student innovation team has won the "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team." Seven HIT students have won the "China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award." In 2014, HIT was honored as an advanced unit in the implementation of the national innovation and entrepreneurship training programs for undergraduates. In 2015, it was recognized as an advanced and pioneering demonstration base for undergraduates under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It was also recognized as a unit in the research and practice of entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities in China. In 2016, our school was honored as a “typical institute” with innovation and entrepreneurship experience. It was named a practice education and innovation base in the second group of colleges and universities under the Ministry of Education. This year, it was listed in the first group of demonstration colleges and universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform.
More than 1,300 participants attended the conference. Among them were leaders from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Transportation and officials from Liaoning Province. Also in attendance were members from the experts committee and the cooperation committee of the national innovation and entrepreneurship program for undergraduates, and members and experts from the teaching guidance subcommittee for innovative methods from the Ministry of Education. Representatives and education authorities from various localities, 261 representatives from college teachers and students, along with people from all walks of life enjoyed the conference.
