On November 27th, "2017 the China-Australia University Summit on Teaching and Learning (CAUSTL 2017) was held at the University of Queensland, Australia. Vice President Ding Xuemei led the HIT delegation at the summit. She delivered a challenging speech as part of the opening ceremony.
The theme of the summit was "The Metamorphosis of Higher Education". University leaders, teaching and management staff from China's C9 University Alliance and Australia's Go8, discussed and exchanged ideas concerning around the changes in the role of universities, the development of MOOCs and how to cope with the rapid pace of technological changes.
Ding Xuemei pointed out in her speech that science and technology, society, economy and culture are developing rapidly in the world. Higher education urgently needs to determine new orientations, seize favorable opportunities and explore new ways to cultivate talent in line with the needs of society. The China-Australia summit provides a platform for universities in China and Australia to share new ideas for university governance, as well as discuss and exchange views on various issues of mutual concern, injecting new vitality into the cause of higher education for both countries.
During the summit, Ding Xuemei also met with David Sedelle, Vice President of the University of Western Australia and Richard James, Vice Chancellor of the University of Melbourne. They discussed ways to further inter-school teaching-related cooperation. Vice President Ding also visited alumni in Brisbane.
The "China-Australian University Summit on Teaching and Learning" is jointly sponsored by HIT and the University of Adelaide, Australia to assist the globalization of higher education. It has expanded and promoted cooperation between universities and relevant institutions in the fields of teaching and student development.
Leaders and teachers from the Undergraduate School, the Department of International Cooperation, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Architecture and the School of Foreign Languages attended the event.
