On the morning of November 26th, 2017 the dedication ceremony of the "Advanced Materials Combined with Structural and Functional Performance and Green Manufacturing Technology", a Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology was held in Shao Hall. ZHOU Yu, the Deputy Director of the Laboratory Academic Committee attended the ceremony. Several leaders participated in the inauguration of the lab. Among them were WU Yicheng, the Director of the Academic Committee and Academician of Tianjin University of Technology, HAN Jiecai, the Vice President of our school, Zang Yi, the Deputy Inspector of Heilongjiang Province Industry and Information Committee, and Professor JIA Dechang, the Director of the lab. During the ceremony, the following members of the Academic Committee were awarded letters of appointment: Academician WU Yicheng, Academician ZHOU Yu, Academician ZHAO Zhengye, Academician DING Wenjiang, Academician CHEN Xiangbao, Academician HAN Jiecai, Academician LI Wei, and Academician TIAN Yongjun.
The same afternoon, the first Academic Committee meeting of the key laboratory was held in room 206 of the International Conference Center at the Science Park Campus. JIA Dechang gave a report about the lab’s work. Through the in-depth exchanges and discussions, the academic committee experts fully affirmed the achievements of the key lab in scientific research, personnel training, and academic exchanges. They put forward opinions and suggestions on research orientation, development goals, the training of young and interdisciplinary promotion for the key lab based on accurate positioning and its outstanding aerospace characteristics.
Relying on the first-class discipline of HIT’s College of Materials Science and Engineering, the key lab "Advanced Materials Combined with Structural and Functional Performance and Green Manufacturing Technology" was jointly established by the Department of Materials Science at HIT’s main campus and related majors at the Shenzhen campus. In 2016, it was approved as a key lab by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The lab, formerly known as Metal Material & Heat Treatment of HIT, has cultivated a group of well-known scholars and outstanding leaders, including 7 academicians, 12 Changjiang scholars and national young talents, and 5 persons who have been selected as members of "Thousand Talents Plan". In the last 3 years, the lab has produced more than 150 PhD and 250 master graduates. With the concept of "openness, sharing and internationalization", the lab will become an international research base for advanced materials combined with structural and functional performance and green manufacturing technology. It will serve as a base for scientific research, technical service and personnel training in the field of material science for China.
In recent years, to meet the demands of Aerospace, national defense, high-end equipment manufacturing, civil industry development and upgrading for advanced structure and functional materials, the lab has focused on the needs of sustainable development and healthy living for energy saving and emission reduction and environmental protection in the process of material manufacturing. Its research direction involves the following international academic frontiers: advanced ceramics and composite materials, light metals and composites, resin matrix composites, advanced coatings, heat treatment and surface modification of materials, the preparation of advanced materials combined with structural and functional performance such as low dimensional nano materials and devices, service performance in extreme environments, and reliability evaluation. Because of its design, preparation, characterization and evaluation of advanced aerospace materials, the lab has obtained outstanding achievements in basic theory, preparation technology research and engineering application. In advanced research areas such as genome design, 3D printing and new low-dimensional nano materials and devices have been developed. In the past three years, the lab has undertaken more than 150 scientific research projects with a total funding of 150 million yuan. Seven of the projects won provincial and ministerial awards. 109 received authorized state invention patents. In addition, over 560 academic papers were published by the lab, including more than 500 SCI retrievals and 530 EI retrievals. Research results have been successfully applied in the key heat-resistant components, lightweight structures and high-end precision instrument systems of manned space projects. These results have provided technical support for the application of advanced materials combined with structural and functional performance and their green and low-cost manufacturing technologies for China's aerospace, national defense and major equipment.
ZHEN Liang, an Academic Committee member and assistant to the President and YAO Lijun, an HIT alumni and Chairman of Ningbo Jiangfeng Electronic Materils Co., Lt. as well as the company’s donation committee attended the conference. Also in attendance were leaders, personnel, teachers and students from the College of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the Institute of Science and Engineering, and Shenzhen Graduate School.
