On January 11th, the National Bureau of Defence Science and Technology released the Top Ten News and Top Ten Innovators (teams) in National Defense Science and Technology Industry in 2017. Ma Jing, professor of the Harbin Institute of Technology, was awarded as one of the Top Ten Innovators in the National Defense Technology Industry in 2017.
“ He devoted himself to exploration and research year after year, hence the findings popped out one by one. After 26 years of hard working, he built a highway of information, making China's laser communication technology is in the world's leading position. By virtue of this technology, we can really know what goes on everywhere. Never care about hard conditions, gain and loss, what he only cares about is how to achieve his aerospace dream. “As a Chinese saying goes, that the rise and fall of a nation is every citizen's concern. Professor Ma refused high salaries overseas and determined to serve the motherland with his professional knowledge. He born a scientific dream in mind, which is to promote the development of science and technology in China. He innovated satellite laser communication technology and fostered hundreds of outstanding students for the country.” The Judging panel recommended Professor Ma, who was awarded the title of "The Most Beautiful Teacher" on the award ceremony for “ Finding the Most Beautiful Teachers” in 2016 at CCTV.
In 1986, after obtaining his postgraduate diploma, Ma Jing became a teacher in the Harbin Institute of Technology(HIT). In 1988, he conducted researches as a visiting scholar at the European Nuclear Center(ENC). He returned to HIT in 1990 and became a lecturer in the Department of Physics. In 1991, Ma Jing and his wife Tan Liying devoted themselves to the research work of satellite optical communication. With large communication capacity, long transmission distance and good confidentiality, satellite laser communication is an irreplaceable means of building a spatial information highway, and a frontier science and technology in the field of international information.
For more than 26 years, Ma Jingjian has been stayed true to the proficiency and accuracy, the spirits of Harbin Institute of Technology. With responsibilities on his shoulder, he has ushered in engineering research from basic research. He successfully completed space experiments, and achieved rapid capture, stable tracking, and high-quality communication of satellite laser links. His findings laid a engineering and technological foundation for the establishment of a high-speed space laser real-time information network. The “Star-Land Laser Link Communication Experiment” successfully conducted by the Ma Jing team, an significant milestone in the development of China’s satellite communication technology, marks China ranks among the leading list in spatial high-speed information transmission, an state-of-the-art high-tech in aerospace field. This technology was selected in 2013 as "Top Ten Technological Advances in China's Colleges and Universities," and in 2014 it was awarded the first prize for the National Technology Invention Award. In 2016, Ma Jing won the "Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award." In 2017, the team’s high-speed satellite and two-way high-speed laser communication system technology was selected as “Top Ten Progress in Science and Technology in Chinese Universities”.
It is reported that The Top Ten Innovator (teams) of the National Defense Technology Industry have been held for four consecutive sessions since 2014. Candidates (teams) are recommended by relevant departments of the National Defense Industry and Technology Bureau, 12 military industry group companies, China Academy of Engineering Physics, public-population supporting institutions, related institutions, and media, etc. Then, the innovators will be awarded after many rounds of selections, experts reviews and final discussion.
