May 25th and 26th, 2018 saw HIT celebrate its 55th school track and field meet at the HIT stadium which was decorated with beautiful, colorful flowers. Countless Harbin residents fill the stadium cheering, applauding and encouraging the Olympic spirit of continuous improvement and outstanding achievements. Wang Shuquan, Zhou Yu, Ding Xuemei, Cai Jujin, Guo Bin, Xu Dianguo, Wu Songquan, Peng Yuankui, and Liu Hong attended the opening ceremony and presented awards to the Sunshine Sports advanced units and the Top Ten athletes.
The opening ceremonies were highlighted with bright slogans, a majestic momentum, and an array of different styles and presentations. Hundreds of members of the HIT family entered the stadium marching in unison! Marching forward! Marching with perseverance! Marching on a mission! With youthful vigor students proudly marched as they carried on the vision of a vibrant, century-old school which is “world class with Chinese characteristics, and HIT specifications”. Students presented traditional Tai Chi with a sense of rhyme, providing a wonderful martial arts feast! There was a plethora of activity including, singing, dancing, and participation by many of the older members of our university family who presented lively gymnastics performances!
On the field, hard work and sweat blended into a dazzling visual feast. The 100 meter athletes were as fast as lightning, running like lions and tigers! They crossed the finish line in what seemed like the blink of an eye. The hurdlers, like waves beating the shore, performed with speed and passion to the finish line. The shot putters demonstrated their strength thrusting the shot into a beautiful arc in the air before it fell in the distance. This event was particularly exciting as Sun Haotong reached a distance of 16.40 meters, breaking the school’s men's shot record. High jumpers were as light as the swallow and continued to leap to new heights.
Leaders of the school not only attended but even participated in various games sharing the joy of sports with teachers and students. Activities included basketball skills, three-legged races, skipping rope, ball passing relays, boating together, hula hoop and many more activities for the enjoyment of all: leaders, teachers and students. Hey, hey, the cheerleaders sang and danced, as they led the crowd in festive celebration!
