From June 1st to June 3rd, 2018 at the invitation of Professor Wang Yadong, Dean of the School of Computer Science, Professor Raj Reddy, winner of the 1995 Turing Award of the American Computer Society (ACM), visited HIT with the strong support of the International Project Management Center of the International Cooperation Department. HIT Vice President Ding Xuemei met with Professor Raj Reddy in Room 101 of the Executive Building. They discussed high-level planning for cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
During his visiting, Prof. Reddy held talks with the leaders and teachers from the School of Computer Science. He listened to the report on the status of the college’s development, curriculum and teaching. He expressed his opinions and offered suggestions on teaching methods. In addition, Prof. Reddy gave an academic report to the teachers and students of our school. He introduced the true meaning of AI and the major changes it has brought to human life. He analyzed means by which AI can benefit the public from the perspective of a scientist who is responsible for human development.
Professor Reddy is one of the pioneers of computer science and artificial intelligence. Currently, he is a tenured professor at Carnegie Mellon University, where he focuses on artificial intelligence and machine interaction research. He developed the world’s first system with continuous speech recognition capabilities.
Relevant persons from the International Cooperation Department and the School of Computer Science attended the meeting and related activities.
