" Where are you from? What’s your major? Are there any difficulties that need to be solved by the school?" In early autumn, undergraduate freshmen were welcomed by the HIT. On the morning of August 16, Wang Shuquan, the party secretary of the school, and Zhou Yu, the president of the school, came to the second campus to visit the freshmen and extend their regards to the welcoming staff. Vice President Ding Xuemei, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission Cai Jujin, Vice President Xu Dianguo, Assistant to the President Peng Yuankui, and relevant department heads also participated in this activity.
Wang Shuquan and his party first came to the entrance hall of the main building to learn more about the new measures each college had taken to welcome freshmen this year. During their visit, they also occasionally had cordial conversations with the freshmen and their parents. At the gift bag station, Wang Shuquan and Zhou Yu distributed packages containing various daily necessities to the families of students with financial difficulties, thus encouraging them to “face difficulties without fear, and strive for self-improvement. In the warm family of HIT, we should strive to cultivate our talents and give back to the nation and the community."
Later, Wang Shuquan and other personnel came to the fifth canteen to check the food safety and supply situation, and then went to the student dormitory to see the freshmen and their parents who were resting there. After asking several freshmen about their basic situation, Wang Shuquan and Zhou Yu told them from a teacher’s perspective: "University is the beginning of a new life journey. You can't have the thought of slacking off in your studies. You can't relax your requirements at all times. It is necessary to develop a good habit of active learning, to learn to be self-reliant in life, and to be free to swim in the sea of knowledge in university."
They also went to the medical examination department of the school hospital and the military training clothing distribution office to inspect and guide the work. The relevant personnel were required to “simplify the process, improve the quality of work, enhance safety awareness, and provide thoughtful and meticulous and first-class services for freshmen. We will establish a good image and win a good reputation from all freshmen and their parents.”
