HIT News (text/ Su Simiao; photo/Lan Rui; Shang Mingrui) On July 5-6, 2018, Academician Zhou Yu, president of HIT, Academician Han Caijie and Academician Ren Nanqi, vice presidents of HIT, expressed a warm welcome to Professor Wu Baozhu(Ngô Bảo Châu), the 2010 Fields medalists, respectively for his visit.
The school leaders extended a warm welcome to Professor Wu Baozhu, and affirmed his contribution to the field of mathematics. By discussing the future construction and layout of mathematics in HIT, the school leaders hoped to have a long-term cooperation with Professor Wu Baozhu and invited him to participate in the construction of mathematics at Harbin Institute of Technology. The school leaders also hope to build a world-class mathematics research base at Harbin Institute of Technology through joint cooperation in personnel training, scientific research, and discipline construction.
Professor Wu Baozhu expressed his gratitude for the warm reception of our school and also felt honored to visit Harbin Institute of Technology. He is looking forward to have more cooperation in the future and hopes to help our school build a better mathematics and create a mathematics research center with international importance.

Professor Wu Baozhu is a world-renowned mathematician and winner of the 2010 Fields Medal. He is well-known for his proof of the fundamental lemma of the Langlands program. He is currently teaching at the University of Chicago.
During his visit, Professor Wu Baozhu visited the Institute of Mathematics and had an in-depth exchange with teachers and students on how to do academic research. Combining his own research experience, he talked about the importance of mathematical research and theoretical innovation, and gave many constructive opinions on how to develop mathematics and train young mathematic talents.
