On the afternoon of November 7th, the opening ceremony of the School of Medicine and Health was held in the auditorium of the HIT museum. At the same time, HIT signed a cooperation agreement with Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital (referred to as “Provincial Hospital”) and Harbin First Hospital (referred to as “the First Hospital”). Sun Dongsheng, Deputy Provincial Governor of Heilongjiang Province, Academician Zhang Xuemin, Director of the Department of Medical Science of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Yan Weige, Deputy Director of the Department of Humanities and Education of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Zhou Yu, President of the HIT, jointly inaugurated the School of Medicine and Health.
Sun Dongsheng, Yan Weige, Wang Shu, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Heilongjiang Province, Qin Deliang, Director of the Harbin Municipal Health Planning Commission, Wang Yidong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial Hospital, Meng Qinggang, Director of the First Hospital, and Zhou Yu respectively delivered speeches at the ceremony. Han Jiecai, Vice President of HIT, presided over the ceremony. Zhao Ge, Deputy Mayor of Harbin, Shao Yubin, Deputy Director of the Health Committee of Heilongjiang Province, Qian Zhaoxiao, Secretary of the Party Committee of the First Hospital, Ding Xuemei, Vice President of HIT, An Shi, Vice President of HIT, and other leaders attended the ceremony.
In his speech, Sun Dongsheng congratulated the establishment of the School of Medicine and Health of HIT. He said that the establishment of the School of Medicine and Health is an important historical moment in the development and construction of HIT. The establishment is not only a positive action to accelerate both the construction of “first-class universities and first-class disciplines” of Heilongjiang Province and the realization of the connotative development of higher education, it is also a powerful measure to promote the implementation of the “Health in Heilongjiang 2030” plan and accelerate the construction of “Health in Heilongjiang”. The establishment of the School of Medicine and Health and HIT’s cooperation with the two hospitals mark the scientific exploration of HIT and Heilongjiang Province in the training of talented professionals in the field of new medical science and the field of medical health. Sun Dongsheng said that the provincial government will continue to support the development of HIT and the construction of the School of Medicine and Health. Heilongjiang Province is actively carrying out the "Leading Wild Geese Action". It is hoped that HIT will seize this moment of the establishment of the School of Medicine and Health to speed up the attracting and gathering of talented professionals, accelerate the construction of "double first-class", and contribute to the wisdom and power of HIT in exploring the new fields of medicine and health, in order to make new and great contributions to people’s health, economic, and social development in Heilongjiang, as well as scientific and technological progress and medical and health undertakings in China.
In his speech, Yan Weige said that the Party Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to the development of hygiene and health, including a series of major policy arrangements such as the “Health in China” Strategy and the implementation of the "Health in China 2030" Outline, which provides follow-up and guidance for the scientific development of health care. At the same time, there is an urgent need for multi-technology combination, multi-domain integration, and multi-disciplinary intersection. HIT has a strong foundation for the intersection of medicine and engineering, which provides important conditions for HIT to carry out scientific research in the field of health and high-level personnel training. The establishment of the School of Medicine and Health is a practical action to implement the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council. It is also an active exploration of deep cooperation and collaborative innovation in medical education. It is hoped that HIT will adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping’s thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era, and thoroughly implement the spirit of the National Education Conference to actively promote comprehensive reforms, constantly adjust and optimize discipline professional structure, and vigorously promote collaborative innovation in production, education and research, thus building the School of Medicine and Health with a high starting point, high standard, and high quality to contribute to serving the strategy of “Health in China”.
Zhou Yu said in his speech that HIT will take the establishment of the School of Medicine and Health as an opportunity to adhere to the "strong, refined, excellent, and special" theory on school management, persist in the "high, new, harmonious, and diplomatic" construction ideas, insist on facing people’s need for a healthy and beautiful life, as well as the demand for talented professionals to achieve “Health in China 2030”, hold the development trend of disciplines from integration to high-level subdivision to cross-integration, and do well in discipline planning with the goal of moderate scale, reasonable structure, distinctive features, outstanding advantages, and excellent quality, thus laying the foundation for new medicine, medical and engineering interdisciplinary disciplines, and other disciplines and departments, which regard health as the main direction with a high starting point. HIT will accelerate the establishment of an effective, intersecting, open sharing platform and mechanism to promote the deep integration of the major modules of medical engineering, new medicine, and health, and focus on the development of biomedical information, health science, biomedical instruments, medical robots, biomedical materials, drug design, brain science, synthetic biology, and other research directions. In addition, HIT hopes to establish a faculty with international vision and international level, as well as to cultivate high-level new medical talents. Finally, HIT will take this opportunity to actively promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in the fields of intelligent medical equipment, medical biomaterials, bio-pharmaceuticals, and rehabilitation equipment, in order to develop characteristics, create advantages, and produce quality products to contribute the construction of HIT as a “first-class university”.
The high-end medical and health forum was held after the inauguration and signing ceremony. Academician Zhang Xuemin, Professor Wang Yadong, and Professor Guo Xitong made special reports on the theme of “International Frontiers and Challenges of Prevention and Treatment of Cancer”, “Large-scale Genome Engineering and Bioinformatics”, and “Health Science: Research, Practice and Prospects”. Professor Li Yu presided over the high-end forum.
It is understood that in recent years, HIT has made great progress in the field of medical health. The clinical medicine discipline has entered the global top 1% of the essential science indicators ("ESI"). HIT has the School of Life Science and Technology, the Life Science Center, the Bioinformatics Research Institute, the Cross-Innovation Research Institute for Medical Engineering, the doctoral program of the first-level discipline of biomedical engineering, and the undergraduate majors in biotechnology, bioengineering, and bioinformatics. In terms of scientific research, an HIT research team has revealed the structure of HIV virulence factors for the first time, which made China's AIDS structural biology research rank at the world's forefront, and has published three articles in Nature on a continuous basis. The “China’s 100,000 People Genome Project” is the first major national plan implemented by China in the field of human genome research, and also the world's largest human genome project at present. HIT has also achieved great performance in the fields of health big data, biomedical instruments, medical robots, biomedical materials, and others. This series of results has laid a solid foundation for the construction of hospitals and the School of Health. The School of Medicine and Health will aim to meet the major needs of national health and medical development and promote the cultivation of high-level medical science and technology talented professionals, thus promoting the development of national health care and making great contributions to serve the strategy of “Health in China”.
HIT will cooperate with the Provincial Hospital and the First Hospital, focusing on personnel training, scientific research, and technical exchanges to complement each other’s advantages and help the development of HIT and the two hospitals. The cooperation does not involve changes in management authority such as personnel, finance, assets, and institutions. Each of them maintains the original independent legal person status, and HIT will not intervene in the operation and management of the two hospitals.
